[yay or nay] Wakuda + Peace Japanese Cuisine

Baby surprised me with an excellent dinner on on Christmas Day, and we went to Wakuda which is located at Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Tower 2, and is helmed by world-renowned two-Michelin-star chef Tetsuya Wakuda.

The interior of Wakuda is elegant and contemporary. The main dining area is designed for couples or group dining, and the centre-stage - an open concept kitchen counter where the chefs are at work.

I love their handcrafted cocktails such as the restaurant’s signature Lady from Shizuoka, which is a mix of Roku Gin, Strawberry Sake, and Sakura Liqueur, topped with a frozen Strawberry Lollipop.

We started off with the 'Yuba Beancurd', an appetizer which consisted of fresh beancurd skin from Kyoto, Sea Urchin from Hokkaido and Mountain Caviar. It was served in a cocktail glass, which made it look visually appetizing. The Kyoto Yuba is amazingly fresh, and the beancurd skin went well with the Uni and Caviar! A perfect combination of earthy and sea flavors.

Following that was the Hotate Sushi which was freshly prepared and the sweetness from the seafood were amazingly delicious. Sometimes simplicity is the best!

For my main course, I had Hot Soba with Tempura - It came with assorted crispy root vegetables and seafood. Everything was extremely fresh and the sweetness of the prawn exploded in my mouth with every bite!

We ended our meal with the Wakuda’s Soft Serve Miso Ice Cream, and it was definitely a hit for us! It is an ice cream unlike any other you’ve ever tried.

We had a pleasurable dining experience at Wakuda, and I look forward to more celebrations together for the coming years!

After attended the media invite of the RAS Epicurean Star Award Singapore 2022, I listed out the best restaurants/cafes that are worth checking out for my future dining venues. I chose to visit the winner of the Best Asian Restaurant (Casual Dining) - Peace Japanese Cuisine for our NYE lunch.

As the restaurant prides itself on using fine quality ingredients, our appetizer order - Salmon Carpaccio was a testament to this! The cold dish featured a few slices of salmon topped with flying fish roe and dressed with a special truffle oil mixed with Japanese Shoyu.  I love the tender meaty texture of the fish, which was beefed up by the oil mix. This dish is definitely worth both of my thumbs up!

Both Unagi Rice Set and Gindari Rice Set were delicious, and are priced at at SGD28.80 each. I expected to be full but unfortunately I wasn't. The price is a bit steep as i realized the orders were of a relatively small portion.

It was pretty quiet even though we came on the NYE for lunch. The food was not bad, but definitely not worth the money we paid for. I must also say that the attentiveness of the staff needs to be improved. After our visit, we actually realized we must have gone to the wrong place for our NYE lunch celebration! Nevertheless, we still enjoyed our meal at Peace Japanese Cuisine, as the quality of the food sort of made up for it.
