[New Zealand] My 3D2N stay in Rotorua - Part 1
Here's the continuous of my New Zealand trip!
We left our apartment in Auckland City after our brekkie, and we drove 2hrs to MataMata to get our tickets for the Hobbiton tours. There were many slots for the tours and the last one was around 330pm. Each tour takes about 2 hours, and there are multiples timings for each different days.
Upon reaching the information site, we parked our car and we made haste to the ticketing counter to get our tickets. Unfortunately, we were told that all slots were sold out for the day, and we regretted that we did not purchase our tickets online in prior to our departure from Singapore, As Hobbiton is the only attraction on this small town of MataMata, we did not have the intention to stay here overnight. In fact, we had a stay waiting for us at Rotorua!
While this made us slightly dispirited, we
reserved our tickets for the very next day instead, and we took the latest slot at 3.30pm.
We drove another hour to Rotorua. Due to this unforeseen circumstances, we had
additional time in Rotorua instead, hence we made our way towards to check in at our next hotel
Along the way from
MataMata, we stopped by Tirau town as I was attracted by the large corrugated
iron buildings that were constructed to look like a dog and sheep respectively!
We had some hot honey
tea at one of the cafes which is located in this quirky town.
We drove to our stay
for the next 2 days at Executive on Fenton. It was a clean and spacious motel
which was filled up with a full range of amenities services!
I love the in-room
jazzuzi spa tub very much!
After depositing our luggage in the room, we drove out to the Government Gardens. It is a place of historical significance to the local Maori people because many battles were fought here.
We spotted many black
swans and sea gulls at the park.
I took many random
photos in the greenery park, and this place was truly beautiful.
Time for dinner! I took a photo
of my stay in Rotorua before heading for food.
We went to the
Rotorua's coolest nightspot in the city, which was aptly named 'Eat Streat'. This attraction is Rotorua's million
dollar outdoor destination.
We settled at Max's
Steakhouse for dinner as Baby was craving for premier steak. This eatery offers
premium steak, and is a winner of the prestigious NZ Lamb and Beef Award
2006-2014.
We ordered Mac's Famous Seafood
Chowder, Scallops and Selection steak, 'Scotch' which was served with our choice of
potato of the day, steak fries or Risotto.
I love the lightly crumpled Scallops with Japanese salsa, Candied Bacon and Basil Pesto very much.
The dinner was
delightful, and the damage was about NZD60 which is around the same damage in
SGD too.
We continued staying
in Rotorua for the next few days, and went to more attractions as well. I will touch upon these places in my
next post entry!
