[Opening Night] STOMP 2013
The Broadway, West End and international sensation STOMP is back and it’s better than ever! Following their acclaimed performance at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, STOMP returns to Singapore from 18th to 23rd June, with new routines, new choreography and new music. STOMP had a sell-out season when they were last here in Singapore in 2009.
STOMP has become a global
phenomenon over the last 22 years, using only body parts and everyday objects. STOMP, a unique combination of
percussion, movement and visual comedy, which was created in Brighton, U.K., way back
1991.
Eight
performers use everything from supermarket trolleys to Zippo lighters, plastic
bags to bin lids, and even the kitchen sink to hammer out an explosively
feel-good rhythm.
Though the haze in Singapore was
really bad lately, but the haze will never stop my passion to watch the OPENING NIGHT - STOMP 2013, and therefore I made my way to the MasterCard Theatres (SANDS
Theatre) after my work to seek entertainment from STOMP, and indeed, the witty performance did help to ease my
stress from work.
I
was given a pair of STALL-SEAT
tickets, and we were pretty much looking forward to watch the extraordinary
performing art by STOMP, both our eyes were glued on the stage once it got
started.
STOMP routinely switched up their
equipment, playing dust bins, brooms, shopping carts, water bottles, wood
poles, giant rubber inner tubes, huge metal storage drums. In short, everything
that had been used to make sounds is now portrayed as ‘MUSIC’ by them.
STOMP found music from everyday use objects and made melodies from them. They were surprisingly funny,
despite not uttering a single word for the entire show.
I'm
a fan of nearly every kind of music, and STOMP
brings a totally different kind of music/performance art. They simply use
everything and somehow make it sound like music.
I
had the pleasure to attend the Opening
Night (media day) of STOMP 2013
all thanks to BASE
Entertainment Asia, and now STOMP is pounding the MasterCard Theatres (SANDS Theatre) at
the Marina Bay Sands, June 18th-23rd. If you like music, shopping trolleys and flashing
lights then wait no more and get down and see STOMP. You will not be
disappointed.
