Gala Premiere of Matilda The Musical
An alert to those who hoarded a series of Roald Dahl books during your childhood, you’re in for a real treat! Matilda The Musical – a stage adaptation of the novel Matilda has arrived in Singapore. The Singapore season marks the first time the hit musical has ventured to Asia. Matilda The Musical was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company and played to sold-out audiences at the RSC’s The Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in England for 12 weeks from November 2010 to January 2011.
The musical follows Matilda Wormwood, a precocious
5-year-old girl who loves reading and learning, but is unloved by her parents
who pay her little attention. She is also bullied by her formidable school headmistress Miss Trunchbull. She overcomes her obstacles with the help of her
class teacher Miss Honey and the Librarian Mrs Phelps. Together they give her
the confidence to embrace her special gift.
Inspired by the beloved book by the famous author
Roald Dahl, Matilda The Musical has taken both London’s West End and Broadway
by storm, garnering five-star reviews across the board. While the musical does
follow closely to the original plot in the novel, the musical gives an alternate refreshing twist to the book. An example would be that the infamous child-tossing Miss Trunchbull is played by a man in the play!
I love the vivid stage sets which feature the
wacky props like swings and colourful alphabet letters hung up all around the
stage. With an awesome cast of young performers, Matilda inspires and
delights audiences both young and old.
I had the pleasure to

Charming, funny and full of hope, Matilda the Musical will
