BARE YOUR SOLE 2016 - SHOW YOU CARE, GO BARE
The Habitat for Humanity Singapore’s annual barefoot walkathon, Bare Your Sole was back for its eight edition, and this year the event was held at the OCBC Square, Singapore Sports Hub. Participants in this walkathon are to tread a distance of either 2.5KM, or 5KM in order to raise funds for the less privileged and give awareness for those still living in poverty in Singapore, and around the world.
I
was excited to attend my 2nd 'Bare Your Sole' event, and felt doubly good as
this event was for charity! This is not your usual 'run', but a special walk,
whereby you do not wear shoes/slippers during the walk!
I
was glad that Baby joined me for this event, and we were up at 6am as this
event was starting early at 730am! We arrived and there were already throngs of
people, but unfortunately, while awaiting the flag off, it started to rain
heavily.
The organisers had little choice but to bring forward some of the games and host activities that were meant for after the walk, in order to wait out the rain, while concurrently entertaining the huge crowd.
Habitat
for Humanity's Champion Ambassadors, Anita Kapoor and Paul Foster were there to
grace the event, as well as to lead the walk.
The
walk itself was shortened, due to the rain, to 2.5KM. I was initially in the
5KM slot but I wasn't complaining! After the walk, we felt good that we could do something and help those who are in need, and to improve their living conditions. The walk was still pretty pleasant, even though we walked on the cold, damp hard path.
SHOW YOU CARE, GO BARE. I look forward to Bare your
Sole 2017.
