[food review] Yassin Kampung Seafood

Yassin Kampung is a Halal certified eatery with more than 15 years of experience in serving zi-char styled seafood in Singapore! Recently, they have introduced their first-ever Mala themed creations, and this is definitely a piece of great news for fans of Mala cuisine!

I attended the food tasting session to try out their new Sichuan Mala creations, as well as some of their other specialities. This event was held at the outlet located at Woodlands, which is a short walking distance away from Admiralty MRT station.

Upon entering the premises, the setting of the eatery place gave a rustic and kampung feel. The menu at Yassin Kampung Seafood is very extensive, and it's got pretty much what you'd expected from a seafood restaurant.

There are four different Mala creations at the eatery and we were glad to be one of the first few to try them out! The four new creations - Sichuan Mala Fried Crab (SGD40), Sichuan Mala Crispy Prawn (SGD22), Sichuan Mala Diced Chicken (SGD15) and the Sichuan Mala Fragrant Fish (SGD38).

As per Yassin Kampung, all of these Mala dishes are cooked with mouth numbing Sichuan Peppercorns, and are combined with dried chilli to give anyone seared, numb but tantalised taste buds! I loved the Sichuan Mala Crispy Prawn and Sichuan Mala Diced Chicken the best!

We were also provided with 'Rainbow Drinks' in order to counter the effects of the spicy mala dishes. The dish was refreshing and certainly assisted in cooling us down!

The signature dish - Kampung Durian Chicken is one of the most unique items on the menu. I was very surprised to see this dish, as I don't think I've ever seen this before at anywhere else! When it was first served on our table, I had mistaken it as the usual Salted Egg gravy with Chicken. To my surprise, it was a durian sauce! If you are a durian lover, you will like it! This is such an interesting dish that you simply have to try it to believe it! Seeing is believing ; trying out is convincing!

Baby Kailan with Oyster Sauce is a classic zi char dish that always hits the spot!

We also got to try another favorite dish of mine, and it was BBQ Sambal Stingray. It tasted awesome and I savored every bit of it.

Kampung Satay Platter

Oxtail Soup

Lastly, there is always room for desserts, and we were given 3 different types. Out of the three, I found the Chendol was the best. It's a truly classic dessert!

Chocolate Banana

Lava Cake with ice-cream
