March's Weekend Staycation at Kuala Lumpur

I had a short getaway to Kuala Lumpur (KL) on a random weekend by Scoot. Our flight was scheduled at 8.45pm on a Friday night and we rushed to the airport after our work. We did our check-in, and we went to have dinner before boarding the plane.

As usual, Daddy Mike picked up us from the airport, and sent us to our pre-booked hotel in the City Centre. Before that, he brought us to have wanton noodles as our supper fix.

The Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur is located right next to the famous Petronas Twin Towers and adjacent to Suria KLCC Mall, and I checked in for a weekend stay. The hotel is approximately an hour from KLIA (depending on the traffic conditions) and is located right in the heart of the City Centre.

My room was with Club Lounge access, and was located on the 28th floor.

The bathroom was equally spacious and the marble finishing and flooring added to the luxe factor.

Upon arriving in the room, there was still a welcome gift waiting for us!

The lounge is on level 24, and the view was great too! Tables by the window were the most popular, and hard to come by.

The lounge offers a comprehensive selection food, as unlike many hotels that only offer canapés and light bites during evening cocktails, they offer full meals. Therefore, you do not need to go out for dinner in order to fill up your stomach.

We had all three meals at the lounge, starting with breakfast, followed by afternoon tea and lastly, the evening cocktails. The variety was excellent!

Malaysia’s most iconic symbol, the Petronas Twin Towers - a magnificent sight and everyone should at least take one picture when you are in the city.

No stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur is complete without having a drip at the beautiful infinity pool. It was a good choice to relax and cool off under a scorching weather. As soon as we arrived at the pool, an attendant would bring the towels to the chairs and set them up for us.

We ordered our drinks from the poolside restaurant, Aqua.

We headed to the club lounge to enjoy our afternoon tea after our pool session.

Since Daddy Mike's birthday is around the corner, so we decided to bring him out for an advance birthday dinner. We brought the folks to a Las Carretas Mexican Restaurant & Bar which is located at Ampang. It serves great Mexican food, and I love their relaxing ambience.

Nothing completes a meal more than a nice pitcher of margaritas. We had the signature Frozen Margaritas.

The total damage was RM600. Though it was on the high-side, but the food quality made up for the damage.

As our flight back to Singapore was around 10-ish at night, we had plenty of time on the last day to do more shopping.

You can consider the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, if you are looking for a conveniently located luxurious stay in KL. Then again, there is no lack of luxury hotels in KL and we will probably go for another hotel brand on my next visit in KL.

My stay at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur was a pleasant one! We spent a great weekend in the city. If you are visiting this beautiful property, be sure to drop by Lai Po Heen for some of the best Chinese food ever.

Lai Po Heen is a Cantonese restaurant that offers fine dining and is rated as one of the best Chinese restaurants among the 5-star hotels in Kuala Lumpur.

Fried Carrot Cake

I love the Steamed fluffy Buns filled with flavorful BBQ chicken.

Steamed Beancurd Skin Rolls

If you are a dim sum person, this is the place that you will definitely be in love with!

We had dinner with the folks before heading to the airport. The joint that we normally go to is Restoran Chuan Chiew! This eatery is at Subang Jaya SS14, and if you are nearby, do give it a try!

We were so glad that we have managed to try out so much nice food during our trip to Kuala Lumpur. We will be back again for more shopping and makan-ing!
