[California Dream] Day 03 : Day trip to Malibu + Santa Monica

Good morning! We woke up at 8am to start on our day. We did a short drive to the popular West Hollywood restaurant - Breakfast by Salt's Cure for brekkie.

They made the best griddle cakes we’ve ever had in our lives. Their griddle cakes were made with oatmeal, and you could taste the nutty texture in every bite. We loved the OG Griddle Cakes that were served with Cinnamon Butter.

After our brekkie, we drove down to Malibu which took us around 2 hours to reach our destination. It is located between the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains.

Malibu has a laid-back beach vibe, upscale living, and a small-town feel. It’s known for its shopping, dining, and stunning ocean views.

El Matador in Malibu is a beautiful beach filled dramatic sea caves and massive rock formations. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous!

I loved seeing all the birds flying around the beach and nesting on the big rocks.

The walk to the beach was relatively steep but I would say it is manageable for most people. The beginning starts out as a dirt path, which then leads to a series of stairs before another section of dirt and more stairs!

The beach was beautiful in every direction with massive rocks, birds, and seaweed covered stones.

Time for lunch! We drove down to Malibu Village Mall and settled at Broad Street Oyster Co. - Malibu's favorite seafood destination!

The Malibu flagship store is a favorite among locals and one of the most sought-after seafood destinations in and out of California among food enthusiasts!

The real star at Broad Street Oyster Co is the Lobster Roll — a beautifully simple creation of generous lobster chunks drenched in warm butter and nestled in a golden toasted bun.

The experience at Broad Street was refreshingly casual. We enjoyed our meal while unwinding ourselves to the beautiful Malibu ocean views!

We left Malibu and drove down to Santa Monica Pier for some sunset sightseeing.

We came across a viral eatery place at the outskirts of Santa Monica. The bright red building was adorned with a yellow smile turned upside down, so it was hard to miss when driving by.

We are non-vegan, but we couldn't resist trying the vegan ‘frowny meals’ from Mr. Charlie’s which is commonly known as the ‘vegan McDonald’s’.

I loved the whole eccentric and nostalgic vibe, but the only downside was that the damage was kinda pricey for fast food!

Just for fun, we ordered the plant-based nuggets. I took a bite into it and was surprised by how similar it tasted to the real thing!

For vegans and non-vegans, Mr. Charlie’s emulates McDonald's well but I view this as gimmicky and a one time thing. You'll probably not eat this more than once especially if you're not a vegan eater.

We had our dinner at Holy Cow BBQ, and the cooked meat was served beautifully in large size tray.

We loved the friendly staff, and it offers a good family vibe!

The Santa Monica Pier is more than 100 years old, and it is also the official end point of 'Route 66', America's historic highway route.

The iconic landmark at Santa Monica is the Pacific Park and its Ferris Wheel, and hence, it is a mandatory to take a photo against this backdrop!

We headed straight back to our Airbnb after a long day! Stay tuned for my next outing, as we had our shopping therapy at the premium outlets, as well as our Clippers game at the Intuit Dome!
