[reality TV show] Preview of Meallions at Specialty & Fine Food Asia 2017

Mr Ivan Sidorok, the founder of Mabius, presented his new food startup reality TV show, 'Meallions' at the Specialty & Fine Food Asia 2017. This event was held at the Suntec convention Centre, Singapore. The show will premiere on YouTube in October 2017.

The first season of 'Meallions' will comprise of 12 episodes, and the production will be available for both European and Asian regions. The Asian version will begin in India, and the finale of the first season will be held in Singapore.

15 Entrepreneurs and their startups from Asia, Europe & Russia will take part in the reality show, pitching their ideas for new food products with the ultimate goal of breaking into the global market. In the first 9 episodes, the entrepreneurs will stay together on a campus to compete for a spot in the semi-finals. The final episode of both versions will be filmed in Singapore where the finalists will have to sell their products at street markets, give out samples to members of the public, and to gather customer reviews. In the end, two final entrepreneurs from the European and Asian shows will walk away with a SGD100,000 prize to roll out their products to a new Market.

The main agenda of the 'Meallions' is to identify business enthusiasts who have the courage to dream big and to help them to realize their potential.

Jasmine and I were invited to a champagne cocktail with the team of the reality show, 'Meallions'.

Upon reaching the event premises, we were greeted by giant crab claws! These were of the finest seafood quality, and the icy environment where they originated from allowed these king crabs to grow into giant crabs with huge long claws!

Mr Andrey Ryvkin is the founder and chef of a small chain of market and street food bistros in Moscow. In 2016, he launched ‘King Claw’ a delicacy bottled crab product at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair in London.

We were glad that we got to try and taste the Potted King Crab Truffle Eggs On Toast, as well as the Potted King Crab Mango and Avocado Salad during the cocktail event!

Thanks for the invitation, and I look forward to watch the episodes on YouTube. If you love reality shows, then do not give a miss to the show!

[food review + soft launch] OMAYA, Mount Austin

OMAYA was well-received by many 'foodie', since its flagship outlet opening at Subang Jaya. It has stirred up hype and is well endorsed of many Korean food enthusiasts within Malaysia. After a short three months, they opened their second outlet at Mont Kiara. Now, barely half a year later, OMAYA's third outlet has been opened at Mount Austin, JB, and I was delighted to have been invited for the soft launch and food review session!

The specialities we reviewed were the 1200mm Korean BBQ Skewer, Giant Pork Ribs Cheesy Toppoki Stew, Honey Mustard Boneless Chicken Cubes, Shimson Stew and the Lee Kwang Soo - Cheese Dakgalbi.

To start off, I had the Rainbow Slush (RM11.90), and I love the stylish tall bottle! The Rainbow colors looked so pretty, and were very Insta-worthy!

I was amazed by OMAYA's Korean BBQ Skewer (RM138) which holds a record for a height of 1200mm. The Skewer is fixed with various Pork Cuts, Chicken Thighs, Sices of Pineapples, Bell Peppers, Squid, Prawns and Onions.

The Skewer is hung high on the ceiling, and it is only detached once it is to ready to be grilled. Thumbs up for the BBQ Skewer as it was definitely the limelight of the night!

Next up was the Giant Pork Ribs Cheesy Toppoki Stew (RM75) which came with 5 humongous sticky Giant ribs that were marinated in mildly spicy sauce. We had a great time polishing off these ribs that were covered in such a delicious and luscious sauce!

The Honey Mustard Boneless Chicken Cube (RM25) came in piping hot cheese! I really like the chicken meat, as it tasted awesome

Shimson Stew (RM84) is one of OMAYA's signature dishes that feeds around 2-3 people. It is a combination of Korean rice cakes, noodles, luncheon meat, ham, hotdogs, baked beans and custard slices. The addition of cheese made the soup thicker and more flavorful!

The Deep Fried Squid Cheesy Toppoki Stew (RM58) was my favorite dish of the night ,as the batter was well seasoned and was cooked perfectly. OMAYA specially selected the Squid from Argentina for its better texture.

The Lee Kwang Soo - Cheese Dakgalbi is another one item that OMAYA takes great pride in! The Boneless Chicken Leg was marinated 2 days using the flavored chili sauce! The set also included an aromatic pork chop, and on the whole , the price was RM82. If you are a cheese lover, then you are in for a treat, as the seductive cheese aroma will whet your appetite!

Another Insta-worthy non-alcoholic drink is the Cotton Candy Fizzy Drink (RM9.90). Many patrons are attracted to OMAYA's special drinks. I love the bubble drink as it really made my day though handling it might be a bit messy!

Never forget about the signature beverage, which is readily available in almost all Korean Restaurants. The Watermelon Soju! This refreshing cocktail (RM36.90) tasted really delicious and was sweet!

Cheese is the primary ingredient in OMAYA, and I was surprised that I did not get the 'Gelak' feeling at all. OMAYA captures the hearts of Korean food lovers and I strongly recommended all my friends and readers to visit OMAYA! I was pleased by the generous serving portions, and the price wise, it was pretty decent as well!

Lastly, thanks for having me at the soft launch of OMAYA. I enjoyed the food very much, and it was worth travelling across the causeway to attend the tasting session!

[opening event] Ah Mah Homemade Cake at VivoCity

Ah Mah Homemade Cake is a bakery from Malaysia that specializes in Castella Cakes, and is widely known for it's fantastic quality and taste. Now, they've opened an outlet at VivoCity, and I was present to taste the yummy Castella Cakes during the media launch! I loved it very much!

Ah Mah Homemade Cake was first opened in Restoran Poh Yap, Kota Kemuning, Malaysia. Within a short period of 2 months, they opened 14 outlets across the country. The very first Singapore outlet was opened at Bukit Panjang Plaza on the 14th of July 2017. 6 days later, they opened the second outlet at VivoCity.

The sponge cake is inspired by the popular egg sponge cake originating from Tamsui (Danshui), Taiwan. Chef Jim of Ah Mah Homemade Cake has adapted the traditional recipe and has put a local twist into it!

Everybody knows that VivoCity has a high volume of patrons and there are throngs of people. Hence, do take note if you're coming to buy the cake, as the queue may be fairly long! During the launch, there were many curious on-lookers checking out on the cakes, but apparently it was not opened to public yet.

The cakes are freshly made every day on the spot, and each batch required a good 80 minutes. To ensure that freshness and quality is maintained, Ah Mah Homemade Cakes are baked daily, and all cakes are discarded after 12 hours if they are not consumed.

The sponge cake is made from simple ingredients such as eggs, milk, sugar and no contains no butter at all. Note though, they use quite a lot of eggs in one cake, so you might find quite a potent eggy taste!

After removing the sponge cake from oven, the Chef flipped the cake on to it's side, cut them into even pieces, and affixed the bakery's logo as a mark of authenticity!

While taking photos at the event, I could smell the fragrance of the fresh sponge cakes which I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into. I really enjoyed these delicious Castella cakes!

The original version (of the cake is made purely with milk, eggs, quality flour, and has no added water, preservatives or colouring. It makes Ah Mah's Homemade Cake a healthier choice after all! It is extremely soft in texture, fluffy, and tastes wonderful.

They have another cheese version, which I feel will appeal more to a younger crowd. Older crowds will probably still prefer the original version. I personally like the original version as I'm not very into cheese, but you can give it a try as I'm sure it's quite delicious!

There are 2 flavors to choose from the original (SGD8) and cheese (SGD11). They are made of Grade AA high-quality locally produced eggs from Singapore. There is a limit per buyer, where they are only allowed to purchase 2 boxes each.

Thanks for having me at the media launch and congratulations on the opening! Kudos to the staff of Ah Mah Homemade Cake for the hard work as they baked batches and batches endlessly for the media launch!

I went home with a box of the original version of Ah Mah Homemade Cake, and I had them for breakfast. The soft, fluffy and melt-in-the-mouth texture of these cakes left me wanting more!
