Fall Vacation - Day 01/02 - Osaka
After 2 successful holidays to Hong Kong and Seoul with his close friends, Baby decided to make it a yearly travelling affair, and he arranged another vacation with his friends to Osaka this year. We met up with them at the airport at Terminal 2. We took a photo inside the waiting area before boarding the plane.
We took an afternoon flight with Singapore Airlines, and I had a pleasant 6 hours flight. We arrived in Kansai International Airport around 930pm local time. Japan is around an hour ahead in difference from Singapore's time.
Prior to our departure, we had purchased our express train tickets from the airport to Nankai Namba Station via KLOOK. We arrived within 35minutes and headed straight to the Swissotel Nankai Osaka which offers great luxury Japanese hospitality in an unsurpassed location. It is situated right above the Nankai Railway’s Namba Station - It's one of the busiest subway stations that connects to everywhere in Osaka as well as to the rest of Japan. In short, this hotel is incredibly convenient, and convenient is a key thing when travelling with big luggage, because you don't have to worry about taking the local train or walking through narrow walkways to your hotel while rolling your luggage!
We were given a room which was located on the 25th floor, and it had a good view of Downtown Osaka. We always choose this hotel whenever we visit Osaka, and this trip made it our third time at staying in this hotel.
After checking into our room, it was already near to midnight, so we decided to have supper at Dotonburi from our hotel which took us less than 15
minutes of walking.
Dotonburi is the centre of food culture in Osaka and is one of most-visited attractions in Osaka.
We settled for our supper at Matsuya - a fast-food joint eatery in Japan. They offer delicious yet affordable Gyumeshi.
Before making our way back to our hotel, we went to try our luck with the claw machines. Yay! We were lucky to catch one! Thanks for coming home with me! Stay tuned to my blog as I will recap on some of the more famous attractions in Osaka that we had planned the very next day!
Breakfast at the hotel is served at the hotel's restaurant
'Table36', which is aptly situated on the 36th floor, and the view
was splendid!
The sumptuous breakfast consisted of usual Western breakfast staple, as well as Japanese fare.
We made our way to Osaka Castle by train after brekkie. It is
one of Japan's legendary historical landmarks and is a popular tourist spot of
Osaka. It features an observation deck at the top floor, and the main building
is set up as a History Museum. The observatory deck allows visitors to view the
beautiful scenery of Osaka Castle Park.
The Castle is a replica of the original Castle, as it was heavily
damaged during the Second World War.
We had sushi for lunch, and we settled at Kura Sushi - one of the
biggest conveyor belt sushi chains in Japan. The starting price for a plate of
sushi for JPY150 onwards.
During our trip, there was a collaboration campaign on-going with the ‘BT21’. During our meal, we tried our luck to win a prize in the Bikkura Pon! game with five sushi plates. We failed a few times, but we kept eating more plates!! Yes, this time we won! We received a mini display vinyl record decorated with ‘BT21’ characters!
For dinner, we travelled to Shinsekai (新世界) which is a district in Osaka that was developed before the war and then neglected in the decades afterwards. There is a Tsutenkaku Tower that is the symbol of nostalgic Shinsekai.
We tried Kushikatsu, one of Osaka’s best-known specialities - A dish composed of various skewered, battered and deep-fried foods.
We headed back to our hotel after some shopping. Stay tuned to our
day tour to Amanohashidate (天橋立) -
Scenic spot in Miyazu, Japan.
