Dinner at Wild Coco + Kapitan
Nasi lemak fans like me enjoy the yummy nasi lemak at The Coconut Club. However in my opinion, it is kind of steep for my pockets. Recently, I found another nasi lemak eatery which is similar to The Coconut Club. Wild Coco is located at Hamilton Road which serves up more affordably priced renditions of Malaysian-style nasi lemak
I ordered the Ayam Berempah that came with a massive chicken leg with a nicely cooked crispy brown skin. The chicken had been marinated in a mix of fragrant spices such as lemongrass and ginger.
The chicken meat wasn’t very tender, as compared to their competitor. However, the well-seasoned skin saved the day! What I like most is their house-made sambal.
We completed our meal with a 'wok-hei' side dish - Stir Fried Three Heavenly King.
Wild Coco is definitely an affordable choice if you’re looking for Malaysian-style nasi lemak. Just be sure to come by before the lunch and dinner crowd starts!
Recently, I was introduced to a restaurant named Kapitan, which serves Slavic cuisine. It was just a convenient less than four-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. Kapitan has a cosy and inviting vibe, and it was a chance to experience Eastern European flavours which were entirely new to me.
For those feeling hungry, I would suggest trying the Zharkoe, a traditional Slavic stew served in a bread bowl which consists of generous chunks of potatoes, mushroom, pork chunks, cheese, and parsley. What a hearty dish!
The Kapitan Sausage is also highly recommended. I enjoyed the sausages with the accompanying mash, served with German sauerkraut.
Both Tracy & I were delighted to be able to try authentic Slavic cuisines without the need for extensive travel. We had a satisfying meal at Kapitan!
