Winter Japan Holiday - 2D1N in Fukuoka

I took a red-eye flight on Friday to Fukuoka, and the flying time was less than 6 hours. I was actually pretty tired after a hard day of work, and I was lucky that the flight was not full, so we could use the empty seats to stretch and rest our legs! I slept throughout the journey!

We reached Fukuoka at around 8-ish the next morning. As we were landing at the international airport, we had to take a shuttle to the domestic airport in order to take the local train to the city. The subway station is located conveniently near Fukuoka domestic airport. Using our 'Suica' cards, we took the local train to Hakata Station, the main transport hub in Fukuoka, which was a mere 2 train stops away. This took about 5-10 minutes!

The weather was cold, ranging from about 4'C to 6'C. Our hotel - Miyako Hotel Hakata is conveniently connected to the train station via an underground basement level. Our hotel room was spacious, clean and well equipped with the usual travel amenities.

We left our baggage with the reception as the check-in time was at 3pm. We decided to have our breakfast. Ramen stalls are e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e in Fukuoka, so naturally that was our first meal for this trip!

Both Baby and I love Ichiran Ramen, so we decided to go to the Ichiran Souhonten which is located within the Tenjin area. We were horrified by the horrendous queue outside the shop. Therefore, we made another 5 minutes walk more to another outlet nearby which only took about 10-15mins of wait time.

Upon entering the premises, we purchased our ramen from the ticket vending machine. We were then given questionnaires at our seat stations to instruct us on how we wanted our ramen to be cooked. This means you can basically instruct how 'Al Dente' you want your noodles to be!

The soup broth tasted awesome, and the noodles were firm and chewy too. This eatery place is highly recommended to people who are looking for a fast and tasty, yet affordable ramen meal.

Before heading back to the hotel to check in, we went to try our luck with the claw machines again. Yay! We were lucky to catch a large Pom Pom Purin! Thanks for coming home with me!

We went to Hakata no Meibutsu Ryori Kisui Maru for dinner to rekindle our Yatai experience.

It is a hidden treasure in Hakata, it offers not only value-for-money meals but also an all-you-can-eat Mentaiko which is a Fukuoka specialty!

The place is actually made to look like an actual 'Yatai', with a 'U'-shaped bar setting with seats, and we had to huddle up next to strangers in close proximity. To be frank the awkward feeling is still there, but it is much better now as compared to our previous experience.

The next day, we headed down to the café to have our breakfast as our room stay came with it. We checked out from Miyako Hotel Hakata after our brekkie. We left our main luggage with them as we were coming back to continue our stay with them after our 5 days’ vacation in Okinawa

We took the airport subway (Kuko Line) from Hakata Station to Fukuoka Airport. We took the afternoon flight with ANA to Okinawa. The flying time was approximately 2-ish hours.

This concluded my travel experience for the first day in Hakata, Fukuoka! Stay tuned, for the next post in Okinawa!
