[Winter Vacation] Shuri Castle - Day 05 in Okinawa + Returning back to Fukuoka
Good morning, Okinawa! As usual, we headed down to the club lounge to enjoy our breakfast. After our brekkie, we made our way to another attraction in Okinawa - Shuri Castle which is located at the heart of Okinawa.
It is one of Okinawa's leading tourist spots, and is built based
on Feng Shui. It was said to have been built around the 14th century and is a
unique Ryukyu Castle with both Chinese and Japanese characteristics.
Shuri Castle was destroyed by a fire in 2019, and reconstruction is currently underway. There are three levels of viewing areas for visitors to see the actual restoration work being done in real time. How often do visitors have the opportunity to see the work of the carpenters and craftsmen up close?! The showcase also teaches us the importance of the traditions and techniques of Ryukyuan cculture, on which has been passed down through the years to generations of Okinawans!
I was really impressed by the structure of Shuri Castle, which characterized both the fusion of Japanese and Chinese architectural styles, making it a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
We had our lunch at Kura Sushi - one of the biggest conveyor belt sushi chains in Japan.
Both Baby and I love Blue Seal very much, hence on my last day in Okinawa, we went to the Blue Seal Makiminato Honten which located pretty near our accommodation. It is the first store and has a history of over 60 years!
Upon entering the ice-cream parlor, I was greeted by a stylish American retro atmosphere, which featured a spacious eat-in area where customers can leisurely enjoy their ordered ice cream in a cool environment.
I love the museum, which was located on the second level and also learnt on the process of how Blue Seal makes its ice cream.
We had our dinner at a random restaurant which was directly opposite our hotel. We ordered some local food to end our last night in Okinawa.
The next day, we headed down to the club lounge to enjoy our
breakfast. We checked out from MB Gallery Chatan by The Terrace Hotels after
our brekkie.
We made our way to Naha International Airport to have our quick lunch before boarding. We took the afternoon flight with ANA back to Fukuoka.
We walked about 13mins from our hotel to Hakata Motsunabe Rakutenchi for dinner.
A short introduction about ‘Motsunabe’ before I continue my post... This dish is a speciality of Kyushu, especially in Fukuoka, and in essence, it is steamboat with Pork or Beef tripe/offal as the main ingredients. As it was cold in Japan, this dish is essential to the locals, and we obviously had to give it a try! I fully recommend any visitors to Hakata to try this specialty!
After dinner, we felt like chilling out at one of the themed cafes
nearby in order to spend quality time with each other. We went to Kirby Cafe
which is located at Canal City.
Kirby is one of our favourite characters from Nintendo, and the cafe set up many photo opportunities corners for Kirby fans to leave their memories and footprints! We took some random photos and got some exclusive merchandise before leaving the cafe.
On the eve of my Birthday, Baby prepared a slice cake for my mini birthday celebration in the hotel after it was past midnight! Happy Birthday to me and may all my wishes come true this year.
This concluded my travel experience for the last day in Okinawa and my return stay in Hakata, Fukuoka!
