[Hokkaido] 3D2N in Hakodate - Part 02

One cannot miss out on the amazingly fresh seafood when visiting Hokkaido. You will certainly be impressed by the taste, freshness and amazing variety!

The Hakodate Morning Market is conveniently located near the JR Hakodate Station and is open daily from 6am till the afternoon. It offers freshly-caught seafood and take-home souvenirs. This morning market mainly caters to tourists, but i did see a few locals as well during my visit! The food items are priced on a high side too!

Hakodate has a nickname - ‘Squid City’, hence the specialty here naturally is squid! One of the most popular activities you can do in Hakodate’s morning market is to try catching these squids. Upon paying ¥800, we were given a rod with a sharp hook. I am ready for the challenge!

Once the squid was caught, the chef prepared the fresh squid sashimi from your catch! This super-fresh squid was still moving! It was transparent in color and had a firm crisp texture. We dipped the squid sashimi in soy sauce and ginger that was provided, and i highly recommend it as the taste was exquisite! Baby got us scallops too as an additional food item.

Do not miss out on the Kaisendon at Hakodate Morning Market. It was a true indulgence of fresh seafood. The set comes with a plate of tempura, a side of miso soup and pickles for ¥1600

Next, we headed down to Goryokaku Fort, after our filling brunch. We took the train to Goryakaku Station, and made a walk of 15-20 minutes to Goryakaku Tower. Along the way, we stopped by Daiso for some frugal shopping.

We took a slow stroll around Goryokaku Park, and too many random photos of the scenery.  The place is one of the best venues to chill out at in Hakodate!

We had our late lunch at Kantaro Sushi and it is a popular local chain of conveyor-belt sushi restaurants. I love the quality of the sushi and what I liked most about the place was that they offered foreign language menus that even included Russian!

We ordered quite a number of plates to share between us. Thanks Baby for the lovely meal, and I had a delightful time there!

We paid ¥900 for the access to Goryokaku Tower Observatory which was 98-meters high for an excellent bird’s eye view. I loved the unique view of the park from above!

The old Goryakaku Fort is well known for its Western Star-Shaped terrain, and is a historical fort with a giant moat that was supposed to be used for defense. The fortress was built in the 1860s as a military installation.

For the best view of the fort and park, do give the tower observatory a try! The view of the park is really stunningly beautiful, and it also offers a great view of Hakodate in general.

Since we were leaving Hakodate to Noboribetsu next, Baby wanted to have our last dinner here at Lucky Pierrot again. One cannot find this restaurant anywhere else in the world outside of Hakodate, so we decided to head back there!

Baby had Omurice with Hamburger while I had the Yaki Soba. He purchased some of their souvenirs and food items back to Singapore. I hope the merchandise and this meal can last him long before he can plan to go back to Hakodate for Lucky Pierrot again.

Next stop! Noboribetsu!
