During the war period of the three kingdoms, ancient China is in turmoil... Prime Minister Cao Cao (starring Jiang Wen) is the real power behind the emperor. When his troops defeated those of rival warlord Liu Bei (played by Alex Fong), they took Liu Bei's two wives, future concubine and other members of his family hostage, as well as Liu Bei's sworn brother, Guan Yun Chang (starring Donnie Yen). Cao Cao greatly admires Guan Yun Chang and wishes to retain him, but Guan Yun Chang's loyalty is with Liu Bei. When Cao Cao finds out Guan Yun Chang was once in love with Liu Bei's future concubine - Qilan, he sets a trap to lead him to temptation and betrayal.

The spectacular actions scenes are the highlight of this highly recommended movie. Guan Yun Chang's famous expedition of "crossing five passes and slaying six generals" plays out in an episodic manner... The choregraphy was directed by Donnie Yen himself, therefore each sequence showcasing an unique style of martial arts... Action fans will be pleased to see various blades, spears and arrows during the countless fight.

Rating: 3.5/5

This is one of the Chinese productions that worth watching on the big screen, I personally feel that it is an ambitious production that will truly make the Chinese proud.

Guan Yun Chang is one of the icons in China's historic heroic figures. This hero is worshipped with equal fervour by both law enforcers and the criminal underworld today.

Jiang Wen, one of the best actors in China today... He steals the show with his ability to instill an intelligent sly sense of intimidation in all the scenes when he appears in as the tyrannical Cao Cao.

Donnie Yen never disappoints the audience in any roles he plays... In this movie, he took up the new challenge of carrying the icon figure in China's historical. He has done a good job, however he did not portray the way what others visualize Guan Yun Chang to be... He is still a top notch action star and choreographer in every audience's heart.
