[food review] Terminal One Cafe, Pelangi

Café-hopping is trending right now, and that means Eateries and Cafés cannot only offer great quality and delicious food, but must have a great setting and ambience as well, in order to be competitive. Most diners are attracted to unique themes, which are now a key factor for any eatery or café!

I was recently introduced to a themed café, 'Terminal One' which is located at the heart of Johor Bahru, Taman Pelangi.

The theme of the café was inspired by a retro European train railway meal carriage! The nostalgic coach compartment seating provides an intimate space for dining patrons to dine and mingle with one another.

I was amazed by the interior design when I entered the café, and I was greeted with the sight of many retro looking briefcases/luggage that were stacked on the top of the seats in a holding area, which emulated the ambience of a real train!

We started off with their in-house signature drinks, Yestea. It tasted refreshing and what I loved most was the jasmine tea aroma was strong and fragrant

We shared the Mushroom Soup which came with a Pastry Puff. The soup was a bit too diluted for my liking and hardly tasted of mushroom, but the crispy pastry puff made up for it, as it went pretty well with the soup. Generally I feel that a thicker soup would work wonders and improve the dish.

Baby ordered the Classic Nasi Lemak by mistake as he wanted the fusion type which included Chicken Chop. To our surprise, it tasted very good even though it only came with the classic ingredients, such as a hard-boiled egg, pandan rice, lettuces with sambal Chili and slices of tomatoes and cucumbers.

I had the Chicken Katsu Don as my main, and it tasted good too.

The dish I loved most during my tasting was the 'Black Jack King, which was a cheesey hotdog with a charcoal bread, and it tasted delicious!

Lastly, we had a side order of Deep Fried Shrimp with Fries, which is a classic sharing food item among friends that will never go wrong!

Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the food served, and the portions were very generous! However, I think the waiting time was a tad too long as it took them almost 30 minutes to serve our first item, the soup. Our main items only came 15 minutes after our soup, and hence the wait was a bit too long. I sincerely feel that if the place expedites and improves on their serving time, it would make a perfect dining place and more customers would definitely return!

Thanks Terminal One Café for their invite and the kind hospitality, and also a big thanks to the team of Station One for the kind arrangement.

Do visit Terminal One Café to experience the retro railway journey as it will definitely bring back many fond memories of your train journey experiences!
