[food review] Hai Xian Lao 海鲜捞

For any Singaporean, a good hotpot/steamboat meal is definitely on our list of satisfying comfort food. Communal styled fare is very popular among asian culture. The steamboat hype has been going on for a long time in Singapore. It is now pretty common to see comfort hotpot fare such as Japanese Shabu Shabu, Chinese Huo Guo or Thai-styled mookata.

We are familiar with the traditional favourite soup bases like collagen soup or Ma la soup etc. At Hai Xian Lao 鲜捞, Diners can choose from 7 soup bases, including the Healthy Collagen, Tom Yum, Sichuan Spicy, Tomato, Laksa, Chicken, and and the in-house unique choice, Prawn Soup Base. I was overjoyed that Prawn Soup was offered at the premises, and I can’t wait to dive into the flavorful hot pot of rich prawn soup!

We also started off on our dinner with a glass of Home-made Winter Melon and it tasted pretty good and refreshing.

Apart from the steamboat, we also had some side dishes, such as the Deep Fried Oyster and Crispy Pork. We loved the crispy pork meat very much.

There are Three-Pot and Two-Pot options, and during our tasting, we were given the Three-Pot Steamboat. We tried the Healthy Collagen, Tom Yum and the Prawn Soup Base. Of the three soup bases that we tried, the Prawn Soup Base was the one i found the most delicious, as it bears a strong seafood fragrance in taste and will definitely appeal to those who appreciate intense flavors.

The Healthy Collagen Soup Base was thick and flavorsome even before adding the ingredients, and the soup was enhanced by the wholesome ingredients with a nourishing taste that left us wanting more. The collagen soup is always the top choice for diners, and what I love most is their rich MSG-free soup.

The meats were thin sliced delicately, and with the flavors of the meat, it enhanced the soup simultaneously and every sip of the soup tasted heavenly good!

To balance our feast of meats, we were also given the 'Vegetable Favorite' - A selection of greens, corn, mushrooms and sliced carrots. The vegetables were placed in the basket freshly.

Hai Xian Lao offers a wide array of ingredients to add into the hotpot, and among my favorites was the Special Marinated Chicken.

We ended our tasting with the house’s home-made dessert, Blueberry Marinated Pear. The dessert was a da bomb!

Thanks Hai Xian Lao 鲜捞 for having us, and QuandooSG for the invite! We will definitely return back for more hotpot fix with more friends in the near future!

Reservations can be made via Quandoo!
