[USA TRIP] My visit to Washington, DC

After spending 4 days in New York, we checked out from the Avalon Hotel in the morning and made our way by foot to Penn Station to catch our bus to Washington D.C. Baby did his homework and read up from various websites on all recommended bus companies that ply the New York to Washington D.C route. There were various mixed reviews on different companies, and in the end we decided on using the Tripper Bus Service.

We were glad that complimentary WIFI were rendered to the passengers on-board the bus, as the journey to Washington DC was about 4.5hours. The damage for our round-trip was USD134.50 for 2 pax.

The drop off point was at Arlington, and we purchased a metro card each to take the metro train to our hotel! Our hotel was between the two metro stations of Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle, and a 5 to 10 minute walk was required!

We checked into 'The Wink', a small boutique hotel in the neighbourhood area Dupont Circle. The amenities were well stocked, and I loved their body lotion very much!

After we settled down at the hotel, we went out to nearby Georgetown for some shopping and sightseeing. Amazingly, we found a TjMaxx, one of our favourite shopping malls in the United States, right here in Georgetown! For our dinner, we decided to try the 'Potbelly Sandwich Shop', a chain restaurant akin to Subway. We found the sandwiches delicious as they were made to order!

Washington D.C. must be one of the easiest places to get around by public transportation or by foot. Washington has a good metro system, and in my opinion I preferred the Metro system in Washington D.C more than in NYC!

On our second day in Washington D.C, we did what most tourists would do, with a visit to the White House. The White House was about a 15 minute walk away by foot, and we passed by the George Washington University (GWU). Baby insisted to take a picture of me next to the University's Logo, which naturally, was the outline of George Washington's head.

Amazingly, it was the Sakura Blossom period when we were in Washington D.C. According to Baby, who is a history fan, a long time ago Japan gave the U.S some sakura seeds as a gift of friendship, and these were used to plant Sakura trees right here in Washington! There were so many beautiful Sakura flowers which easily matched the ones found in Japan, and we couldn't help but take photos of them, as well as with them!

We finally reached The White House - Which anyone will know is the official residence and workplace of the President of the United States. Unfortunately, we could only view the premises from a distance, but it was still quite the experience. I can now cross this off my bucket list!

After leaving the White House, we spotted a posh restaurant - The Hamilton, and we decided to go in for lunch. The restaurant offers seasonal and regional American cuisine, for brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, as well as a sushi menu.

The dining room was nicely decorated. The food was very good and reasonable priced for the location. This is a good place to go for lunch or dinner if you want to enjoy a nice sit-down meal. The damage was kinda on the pricey side, but the delicious food made up for it!

After our meal, we made our way to The National Mall by foot. It is one of Washington, D.C.’s most iconic landmarks. Located in the centre of a precisely organized city, the Mall is literally the heart of D.C.

You can find a number of the city’s most prominent monuments in the vicinity of the National Mall, such as the United States Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, and many many more!

The Lincoln Memorial is perhaps the most famous and most important in the social history of the United State. The Lincoln Memorial also marks the western end of the Mall.
