[food review] Citrus By The Pool - Woodlands Swimming Complex

A piece of good news to all Muslim friends who are residing in the north. There is a great new eatery place for you to bring your family and friends to for a scrumptious feast! Located right beside Woodlands Swimming Complex, Citrus By The Pool is a Halal certified café restaurant that offers a variety of western and Asian fusion cuisine, which have recently released an updated menu that has more than 20 new dishes, drinks and desserts!

Upon stepping into the premises, we were greeted by a retro-themed interior with cozy lights. Thanks for having us at this arranged private tasting session.

Citrus By The Pool offers an array of selection of food, including Western food, Asian Fusion Cuisine and desserts. Most importantly, the café omits the service charge and therefore lessens the burden to our pockets whereby allowing one to enjoy an affordable dining experience!

Before we kicked off our tasting session, we shared some mocktails among ourselves.

We had the 'Cool as a Cucumber' (SGD7.90) and the 'What a Peach!' (SGD8.90)

Check out their new range of mighty milkshakes which are priced from SGD8.90 - SGD10.90, and there are 6 to choose from - Classic Vanilla, Double Chocolate, Strawberry Gem, Caramel Popcorn, Cookie Crush and Snickerhead. Do share these massive milkshake drinks with your buddy, as they are generous in their portions.

The Caramel Popcorn (SGD9.90) is a rich vanilla ice-cream based shake blended with caramel sauce and topped with caramel popcorn for a dramatic effect. The Strawberry Gem (SGD9.90) is a classic strawberry milkshake and topped with childhood's popular gem biscuits for retro comeback experience.

Due to overwhelming requests from diners, the Citrus Team introduced bigger and tastier burgers with a local twist - Little Boss (single patty) - SGD14.90 and BIG Boss (double patty) - SGD17.90 which are served with Cajun Fries. This chef's specialty burger combines the best flavor of beef and mutton (BM) in one patty.

All I can say that BIG Boss Burger is bold in flavors, and the burger consists of the patty, crispy fried onions, sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, crisp lettuce & purple cabbage slaw which is lastly drizzled with satay sauce between toasted charcoal buns!

The Dry Curry Pasta with Chicken (SGD11.90) - The Al Dente pasta is coated with delicious, spicy curry sauce and is served with tender chicken fillets. This dish is definitely worth mentioning!

The signature Tom Yum Seafood Pasta (SGD13.90) is an all-time classic at Citrus By The Pool. This Thai-inspired dish tasted delicious with a distinctive hot and sour flavor that will be well sought after by many Singaporean foodies.

The Tobiko Pasta with Smoked Duck (SGD12.90) was my personal favorite among all the pasta dishes I tried during the tasting session. I simply love this western-Japanese fusion pasta. This linguine is well seasoned with Furikake (Japanese seasoning), and I couldn't resist asking for more servings!

The Cajun Lamb Rack (SGD21.90) is worth mentioning as well, as the dish is served on a bed of mashed potatoes and seasonable vegetables, which are then topped off with a homemade brown sauce. The Lamb Rack was served medium which is perfect for lamb, but I personally prefer my meat to be a little closer to well done. The Cajun spice flavor was not overpowering, therefore you still get to enjoy the juicy flavor of the lamb.

Unfortunately the steak was a little bit over the 'Medium-Well' range which I chose. Although, I guess it was fine as I do prefer my steak to be a little closer to 'Well-Done' anyway. However, if you are a fan of meat then you can consider ordering this!

For dessert, indulge yourself with the restaurant's signature Molten Chocolate Lava Cake (SGD10.90), which is a chocolate cake that has 'lava' chocolate filling inside. The cake itself is topped with icing sugar and is served with a scoop of ice cream and a fresh strawberry.

I did feel a tad guilt upon seeing the runny chocolate fudge flowing out of the lava cake! I simply loved the warm and rich chocolate lava cake which had a subtle sweetness to it! The Molten Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream is definitely a must-have when you visit Citrus By The Pool!
