The story of a woman named Qiu Jin (played by Huang Yi) who grew up questioning the unequal treatment of men and women and fought for her rights to an equal education.  She is married against her will to Ting Jun (starring Kevin Cheng) expecting a submissive wife who can turn a blind eye to his causal philandering and of course give him a heir which is to give birth to a son... However, she abandons her family for Japan after a big quarrel with her husband. She became the first female revolutionist in Chinese history and fought against the corrupt Manchu government. In 1907, the revolution failed, she was put to death at the age of 31.
3.5/5
Huang Yi does a good job bringing Qiu Jin's determination for her ideals and her insecurities worrying for her family. Anthony Wong makes the best of a small support role in the movie as a sympathetic governor and he is powerless to stop the beheading punishment of someone he respects the most.

‘The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake' is remarkably good as a shining example of Chinese history come alive.

I had the pleasure of watching the preview screening all thanks to xinmsn. The premiere date is on 20 October 2011.
