[Asian Premiere] Cavalia: A magical encounter between man and horse

Cavalia is a lavish and unique production involving 50 magnificent horses and featuring 42 riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers and musicians from all over the world. Cavalia celebrates the relationship between humans and horses, virtually reinventing the equestrian arts.

I was excited to attend the Asian Premiere of the multi-disciplinary theatrical production Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Man and Horse. I was amazed by the impressive Cavalia village, and Cavalia’s White Theatre Tent is the largest touring tent in the world, which is now erected on Bayfront Avenue beside Marina Bay Sands, as Cavalia launched its first Asian tour in Singapore on August 12, 2014.

The White Theatre Tent consists of fairy spires towering 10-storey high, a colossal 50-metre-wide stage as well as including a 60 meter-wide screen on which images are projected to create virtual backgrounds. The gigantic stage area allows the horses to gallop at full speed, thus allowing the horses to show their grace, strength and beauty the same time.

I was surprised by the massive tentage area that enables the horses to perform at a flat gallop while maintaining the intimate experience with the audience.

The show is based on the long lasting relationship between humans and horses and with the large backdrop. It took us (audience) through various different cultures and seasons. Cavalia is not just about horses, but it engaged the audience with awesome acrobatics and gymnastics performances, and it is a once in a lifetime experience.

There were some hits and misses throughout the whole cirque performance. Oh well, maybe it is their first day to perform in a new environment or they are nervous due to unfamilar location, hence there were some slight errors and mis-delivery of cirque stunts from the acrobats, but they had that 'Never say die' spirit and it touched me as the performers quickly re-did any snuffed shunts to ensure that we have the best eye-catching performance ever.

The performance was spectacular. The lightings, music and special effects were top notch too. The interaction of the performers and the horse were simply wonderful and strong bonding, as they show love and respect for another. If dog is man’s best friend, then horse is a god’s gift to mankind. This show is worth both my thumbs up!

Thanks Cavalia for inviting us into a world of fantasy of 2 hours. With all the astonishing performances by the performers and horses, it would be a travesty to miss out on this great artistic and theatrical performance and experience! They will be performing under the White Theatre Tent, Bayfront Avenue (beside Marina Bay Sands) from now till 14 September 2014. Tickets are priced from SGD58 – SGD188. Standard Chartered credit cardholders get a 10% discount on all tickets tiers.

We were also invited to the reception at the Rendez-Vous Lounge after the show, and we had a couple glasses of champagne. Thanks for the kind hospitality and having us there!
