Makan Journey: Hakata Ikkousha + Tsujiri
I met up with my makan buddies for our monthly makan outing. Hongwei gave the suggestion for our makan haunt again, and this time, we went to Hakata Ikkousha which is located at Tanjong Pagar Plaza. Hakata Ikkousha won the ultimate Ramen Champion in 2011 and 2012. The two time Ramen Champion, Hakata Ikkousha opened 2 outlets in Singapore in Tanjong Pagar Plaza and Chijmes.
Hakata is a city in Fukuoka, Japan, where it is known for their springy and
thin ramen noodles. The chef has done a good job in bringing authentic taste
and cooking methods, and the eatery place was also well decorated with a sense of
Japanese feeling.
Hongwei and Jax ordered the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen, and the broth is
simmered for over 12 hours and bears a creamy texture.
Terence and I had the Black Tonkotsu Ramen, and it is made of special fried
garlic that will definitely please all garlic lovers.
Hongwei brought a Japanese magazine with him, as according to him, it will give us some
surprises and additional perks for our dinner gathering. With the perks from the magazine, we were
given free Hakata Specialty Hitokuchi Gyoza (5pcs) with every main course
ordered.
We love the Gyoza very much and I will be back for more! Apart from the
usual vinegar dipping sauce, the Gyoza was accompanied by a salsa type sauce
that is made from Yuzu.
There were a range of condiments on every table which include boiled eggs
and Karashi Takana (Spicy Mustard Greens) which went well with the ramen.
Despite of its central location, the prices are surprisingly affordable and the
serving is pretty decent too. Hakata Ikkousha is definitely a place to visit if
you are a big fan of ramen.
We ended our gathering at 100AM where we had Tsujiri ice-cream and we
enjoyed the companionship and the time spent together. I look forward to the
next meet-up in October.
I end my post with a beautiful globe of Under the Dome. Thanks RTL CBS
Entertainment for the lovely gift and smooth delivery!
