Dinner at Guan Hoe Soon + Lunch at Zok Noodle House

Both Baby and I went to Guan Hoe Soon to have our Peranakan fix on a random 'Fridate'. It is located at Joo Chiat - one of Singapore's first heritage shophouse areas. It   has a long history and is considered Singapore's oldest Peranakan Restaurant since 1953.  The appetizer gave us a great start and it was really quite special. Initially, Baby thought it was achar, but when we brought the food closer to us, we realized that it was actually chicken gizzard, cucumber, and pineapple topped with shaved cuttlefish in a sweet and sour yet spicy sambal taste. We ordered the Otak Otak and it tasted pretty normal,  nothing to shout about! We enjoyed the Nyonya Chap Chye very much. It's one of the good ones among other places we've tried before. We ordered the Bawang Kepiting , and the soup was refreshing, but I felt that the meat balls were a bit lacking. I was pretty disappointed with it, as I held high hopes from for this oldest Peranakan restaurant. These complim...

I received a package - ' Grilled Mackerel'  by Ottogi , and I am glad that I was introduced to this microwavable grilled fish product which is easy to cook and has excellent quality! The company selected only quality graded   mackerels, brushed them with green tea and turmeric to get rid of the fishy smell, and seasoned them with salt to make sure they are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The grilled mackerel is a product that is enormously popular in Korea. It was prepared to be enjoyed by the elderly as well as children as 99% of the fish bones have been removed to prevent and avoid injury while eating.  This flavorful grilled mackerel is highly recommended to be served with rice. I had it with my pasta, and it goes well with gochujang hot pepper paste! I love it very much! Lastly, thanks  '0.8L Singapore'  for sending the grilled mackerel over! Happy weekend! Baby and I headed to  Tan Yu  探 鱼   for dinner, and we settled at the T...

Recently, with the easing of the COVID-19 restrictions, the BBQ Pits at our Condo are now opened for booking! In total, there are 4 pits in the premises, and there are 2 sessions per pit. Baby organized a BBQ gathering with his clique, and he booked the first slot (10am-3pm) and the pit he booked was the one nearest to our tower. We enjoyed ourselves very much and BBQ party was a success, kudos to P. He did all the cooking for us. He curated our BBQ’s menu and prepared the all the ingredients and brought them over. FYI, he is working as an executive chef in a private club along Cantonment Road. After indulging ourselves with the yummy food, it was time for a pool party! The pool was just beside the pit, so they went down for a swim to beat the scorching weather. For myself, I usually prefer usage of the Jacuzzi as the water jets releases all tensions in my muscles! Alles Gut! Our gathering ended at 3pm. After seeing how successful the BBQ session was, it gave me a morale booster...
