Dinner at Guan Hoe Soon + Lunch at Zok Noodle House
Both Baby and I went to Guan Hoe Soon to have our Peranakan fix on a random 'Fridate'. It is located at Joo Chiat - one of Singapore's first heritage shophouse areas. It has a long history and is considered Singapore's oldest Peranakan Restaurant since 1953. The appetizer gave us a great start and it was really quite special. Initially, Baby thought it was achar, but when we brought the food closer to us, we realized that it was actually chicken gizzard, cucumber, and pineapple topped with shaved cuttlefish in a sweet and sour yet spicy sambal taste. We ordered the Otak Otak and it tasted pretty normal, nothing to shout about! We enjoyed the Nyonya Chap Chye very much. It's one of the good ones among other places we've tried before. We ordered the Bawang Kepiting , and the soup was refreshing, but I felt that the meat balls were a bit lacking.
