[food review] Minced Pork Bros + Oraeo Lab Tofu Cookies

Image
Bak Chor Mee is a favourite classic in Singapore, and is also considered as comfort food for many Singaporeans. They are commonly found in our local scene yet this dish can be hard to nail. The Minced Pork Bros stall is easily distinguished by their pop-art neon blue signboard, and they are located at Old Airport Road Food Centre , one of the oldest and largest hawker centres in Singapore. I went there on a Saturday afternoon, and I was greeted by a long line! It took me a while to get my order, and I was genuinely impressed by their bak chor mee. Presentation doesn’t bother me, as I always judge food on its most fundamental part. In this case it's the noodles! Thankfully, they were excellent with a perfect springy bite, and most importantly, they didn’t have a strong alkaline taste, which is always a plus point for me! The noodles were tossed beautifully in the spicy-vinegary sauce (you can request for non spicy or without vinegar), the noodles were very slurp worthy and went v...

Dinner at Oasis Hideout + Nuttylicious Hazelnut Spread by Harvest Fields + SG Sweet 60 High Tea Set

Image
Oasis Hideout is a dining spot located at the Singapore Polytechnic Graduates’ Guild (SPGG) . It is open to the public, and it is a little way out of the way for those who don’t drive. It definitely feels like a hideout! I recently visited, and I felt that it was a quaint hidden gem! The poolside dining experience was absolutely delightful. The eatery serves up a special blend of Western and Asian flavours developed in part due to Chef Antonio’s hawker heritage. We decided to order the Oasis Olive Fried Rice , as there was a generous old-school’s value meal top up available by adding an additional $5.50, which comes with a Soup of the Day and a Fruit Juice Drink. While there were the usual pasta dishes like Aglio e olio and carbonara, I tried the Tom Yam Seafood Pasta , a spicy dish that combined linguine with creamy, spicy-sour Tom Yam broth flavors along with seafood like prawns and squid. We also enjoyed the chicken  'Popraage'  which were perfectly deep-fried. Beware, as i...

[Food review] The Durian Bakery - MSW Durian Cake + D24 Durian Mochi

Image
During this year’s mid autumn festival, we actually got ourselves some durian snow-skin mooncake as Baby is a big fan of durian desserts. Hence , we were so glad that The Durian Bakery reached out to me for a review.  The Durian Bakery offers free delivery with a minimum purchase of $100 on their products, or there is also the option for delivery at $10 for any orders under $100.  You can go for a same day delivery or choose your own 4-hour delivery time-slot. I arranged for the durian treats to be delivered to my house between 2pm to 6pm.  One of the highlights on  The Durian Bakery   was their durian cakes.  There were a couple of enticing ones to choose from on their site and I was honestly spoilt for choice. I decided to try their Signature 6-inch Classic Durian Cake . The soft vanilla sponge cake was layered with the brand's signature Mao Shan Wang Durian Puree. The filling was smooth and luxurious, carrying that distinct bittersweet durian punch wit...

[Food Review] Twyst + Ann Chin Popiah + Sakana-No-Suppu

Image
Twyst is known for their value for money yummy pastas, and I am a big fan of pasta. I decided to head down to their newly opened outlet which is located at City Square Mall for dinner!  It has become a popular pick amongst office workers who are looking for fuss-free quick meals. What’s even better is that they are halal-certified, making them a great meal option for our Muslim friends. The ordering kiosks have greatly sped up the ordering process during weekday lunch times, whereby the eatery place is usually filled with office workers.  Twyst offers the choice to DIY your own affordable pasta bowls, which are definitely their highlight, but we decided to try their Chef’s Signature Dish instead, as they offer many interesting ready-curated pastas. We picked up the Creamy Alfredo ($10.90) , and Pomodoro ($10.90) . The pasta was piping hot when it was served, and I found that it was the perfect amount in terms of portion servings for me! The pasta was perfectly cook...
