[food review] New Teck Kee Chicken Rice serves Truffle Chicken Rice Platter

Image
Chicken rice is our national hawker dish, and is a favorite/comfort food of many Singaporeans! We can hardly go wrong with it! Looking for a nice simple place for a meal of Singapore? If local dishes like laksa or zi char that suits your taste, then the New Teck Kee Chicken Rice restaurant in Rail Mall might be your kind of place. Chicken rice is their speciality but the restaurant also serves a wide range of zichar favorites such as stir-fried vegetables, shrimp rolls, fried omelette and etc.   New Teck Kee Chicken Rice  introduces Truffle Chicken Rice Platter, (SGD23) which serves from three to five pax. This large chicken rice platter drizzled with truffle oil was introduced by their 2nd-gen owner, who intends to give a breakthrough to the traditional chicken rice. It is a gentle kind of break away from tradition! Do note that this is a new item, and you may not be able to find it on their physical menu. Do not worry though, as it is already available for ordering!  ...

[foodies' corner] All about food!

Recently, I went to Osaka Ohsho during my lunch break with my lunch-mates, and the restaurant is located at Raffles City Shopping Centre ! I had my favorite Scallop Okowa Rice with Gyoza Set . In my personal opinion, Osaka Ohsho serves the best Gyoza in town, as each piece tasted divine.   Popular award-winning chicken rice from Bangkok, Go-Ang Pratunam has finally opened up in Singapore! The brand has been established for over 50 years in Thailand.   This Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice is indeed like our Singaporean version of Hainanese chicken rice, and the only difference I found was the chilli dip. Instead of the familiar blend of orange chilli sauce and ginger sauce, theirs is a mixture of blended dark soya sauce, vinegar, cut ginger and green chillies.      Baby enjoyed the Red Curry Chap Chye . The curry gravy went pretty well with our chicken rice too.    I enjoyed the Chai Poh ...

Our usual weekend activity is to drive into JB, Malaysia, and this time we went in via the Tuas Second link. We cleared the customs in just a few minutes, and we were heading to Aeon Bukit Idah . We had our lunch at Beans Talk , a small eatery place which offers Taiwanese street food/desserts... Baby had Braised Pork Rice with Egg (Lu Rou Fan) I had Oyster Mee Sua We crossed over to the opposite side of Aeon Bukit Idah in order to seek new places for our dinner, and as we walked along the street of Jalan Idah, we discovered a food gem, Jeju BBQ Korean Restaurant. The restaurant is run by Koreans, and upon entering the premises, the interior setting look very similar to those in Korea. We were served 15 side dishes (banchan) upon being seated, and they almost took up the whole table space. We ordered pepper marinated pork loin The meat was wonderfully cooked above the charcoal grille, and each piece of mea...

[Vacation] My 2nd road-trip to Melaka

Image
My 2D1N short retreat to Melaka was fruitful, as Melaka ( Malay name for Malacca) is a port city with full of unique history. We went on a road trip to Melaka , and we drove down from Singapore via Tuas Checkpoint (second link ). We stopped by Yong Peng for brekkie, and we had Yong Tau Foo at Jin Du Restaurant . I love the chewy Hock Chew fish balls with meat fillings... My brekkie went well with the home-made chili paste... We continued our journey after our meal, and we finally reached the rich historical and cultural city centre that was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in July 2008. It took us about a 3-hour-ish drive to reach Melaka (including buffering like custom checks, slight traffic jam and resting for brekkie in Yong Peng)   As we planned to stay a night in Melaka on the New Year's Eve (NYE 31 Dec 2013), therefore reservations are a MUST... We booked a Standard/Superior room at Bayview Hotel with complimentary breakfast a...
