[opening event] Ah Mah Homemade Cake at VivoCity

Ah Mah Homemade Cake is a bakery from Malaysia that specializes in Castella Cakes, and is widely known for it's fantastic quality and taste. Now, they've opened an outlet at VivoCity, and I was present to taste the yummy Castella Cakes during the media launch! I loved it very much!

Ah Mah Homemade Cake was first opened in Restoran Poh Yap, Kota Kemuning, Malaysia. Within a short period of 2 months, they opened 14 outlets across the country. The very first Singapore outlet was opened at Bukit Panjang Plaza on the 14th of July 2017. 6 days later, they opened the second outlet at VivoCity.

The sponge cake is inspired by the popular egg sponge cake originating from Tamsui (Danshui), Taiwan. Chef Jim of Ah Mah Homemade Cake has adapted the traditional recipe and has put a local twist into it!

Everybody knows that VivoCity has a high volume of patrons and there are throngs of people. Hence, do take note if you're coming to buy the cake, as the queue may be fairly long! During the launch, there were many curious on-lookers checking out on the cakes, but apparently it was not opened to public yet.

The cakes are freshly made every day on the spot, and each batch required a good 80 minutes. To ensure that freshness and quality is maintained, Ah Mah Homemade Cakes are baked daily, and all cakes are discarded after 12 hours if they are not consumed.

The sponge cake is made from simple ingredients such as eggs, milk, sugar and no contains no butter at all. Note though, they use quite a lot of eggs in one cake, so you might find quite a potent eggy taste!

After removing the sponge cake from oven, the Chef flipped the cake on to it's side, cut them into even pieces, and affixed the bakery's logo as a mark of authenticity!

While taking photos at the event, I could smell the fragrance of the fresh sponge cakes which I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into. I really enjoyed these delicious Castella cakes!

The original version (of the cake is made purely with milk, eggs, quality flour, and has no added water, preservatives or colouring. It makes Ah Mah's Homemade Cake a healthier choice after all! It is extremely soft in texture, fluffy, and tastes wonderful.

They have another cheese version, which I feel will appeal more to a younger crowd. Older crowds will probably still prefer the original version. I personally like the original version as I'm not very into cheese, but you can give it a try as I'm sure it's quite delicious!

There are 2 flavors to choose from the original (SGD8) and cheese (SGD11). They are made of Grade AA high-quality locally produced eggs from Singapore. There is a limit per buyer, where they are only allowed to purchase 2 boxes each.

Thanks for having me at the media launch and congratulations on the opening! Kudos to the staff of Ah Mah Homemade Cake for the hard work as they baked batches and batches endlessly for the media launch!

I went home with a box of the original version of Ah Mah Homemade Cake, and I had them for breakfast. The soft, fluffy and melt-in-the-mouth texture of these cakes left me wanting more!
