[New Zealand] Great Lake Taupo

We continued with our drive from Huka Falls to our next location, Lake Taupo, and it took us another 30 minutes to reach our destination.

Along the way, I had my favorite 100% pure Apple juice from The Homegrown Juice Company. I even brought back half a dozen of them from NZ to SG LOL!

We settled our baggage at Bay Court Motel, and the location was great. We could look upon the vast Great Lake Taupo from our apartment, and it was fantastic! The motel was well equipped
with the necessary facilities, but most importantly, the room was very clean!

We stayed 2 nights in Taupo, and our stay came with breakfast. To us, this was a perfect room service, as we love having breakfast in the room!

The highlight of the day in Taupo was to visit the Great Lake Taupo. This lake was created nearly 2,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption. The lake is actually the site of a crater, and the water was incredibly clear blue! The size of the lake gave me the impression that it was almost the size of Singapore!

We walked around the Great Lake Taupo and we took many random photos! Beware of photos galore!

Lake Taupo is great for water-skiing, sailing and kayaking. It was a pity that we didn't do the Maori Rock Craving at Mine Bay which can only be seen from the water via a boat tour. Oh well, this gives me an excuse to go back to New Zealand again.

Lake Taupo is also known for fishing, and we went to Turangi, a town in Taupo. Turangi has the largest natural trout fishery in the world. This is a great place to cast a line for a big one!

We settled our dinner at Pub n Grub along the Great Lake Taupo. We had Fish, Chips and Eggs + Creamy Mussels with Garlic Bread. The portions were pretty generous, and was more than enough to fill our stomachs!

Baby kept telling me that he wanted to bring me to McDonald's during our drive to Taupo.

There was a very good reason for this, as I was greeted by the World's Coolest McDonald's! This is the only Mac's that features a decommissioned DC3 plane as part of the décor of the fast food outlet! How cool was that??? Obviously, I couldn't leave Taupo without a picture of myself with the plane!

Remember to include Taupo in your NZ bucket list, as it really is a unique location within New Zealand! Lake Taupo is one of the 'MUST-VISIT' lakes in the world! Of course, one must also visit Mount Ruapehu, which is a volcano and home to one of New Zealand's largest ski fields! Do look out for my next post, in which I will feature on my experiences at Mount Ruapehu!
