[food review] Dai Lou - Punggol Marina Country Club
'Dai Lou' is a 90's Canto themed Restaurant which is inspired by various popular Hong Kong triad movies. The restaurant is newly opened at the Punggol Marina Country Club, and they serve Cantonese zi-char fare.
Look at the names of
the dishes on the menu that are served up in the restaurant sound so cheeky,
but I kinda like them!
Look at the names of the dishes on the menu for an idea of what I meant on the restaurant's source of inspiration! 'Dai Lou' translates into 'Big Brother' in Cantonese. One of the signature dishes that I tried was called 'Dai Lou's Money Bag', a dish that was similar to a New Orlean's 'Crab in the Bag' dish. The Money Bag consisted of Crab, Corn, Clams, and various other ingredients and had a Salted Egg + Black Pepper sauce.(SGD49.90/SGD79.90)
The taste of the Money Bag was generally very good, as Salted Egg Yolk with Black Pepper sauce complimented the Seafood well. It is also highly recommend to try this dish with white rice or golden mantou (Chinese fried buns)!
Do not miss out the XO Crab Meehoon (SGD47/Crab), as the mouth-watering crab won me over with its juicy meat! The soup was very tasty as well. I loved it so much as I can taste the freshness or the crab!
The dish I loved best were the
Honey Milk Pork Cubes - (SGD10/SGD15/SGD20)
Beware: The pork cubes were very addictive! They were soft inside, and crisp on the outside. I really loved the texture of
the pork cubes!
The Knuckle Duster
(Thai Style Pork Knuckles) - SGD25 was the most unique and flavorful deep-fried
Pork knuckle that I've ever tasted! It was perfectly cooked and the meat was
moist and tender while the outside was wonderfully crispy! With the sweet
spicy Thai chilli sauce, it perked up my appetite!
Overall, I felt there was still room for improvement, even though the dishes were undoubtedly delicious. Thanks for the tasting invite!
