[food review] Jumbo Goldmine Hotpot at Thai Goldmine Kitchen
Thai Goldmine Kitchen first started operations in 2015 as a hawker stall in HarbourFront Centre's food court, 'Tuckshop'. They offer authentic yet affordable delicious Thai dishes which are suitable for casual dining and group gatherings. 2 years later, they opened their first eatery place in Kitchener Road. There is neither a service charge nor a GST charge, hence prices are rather friendly to one's pockets!
The chefs come from different parts of Thailand, and they bring
in their own interpretation of authentic Thai food. Recently, they have offered Singapore's biggest and hottest Thai hotpot, the aptly named 'Jumbo Goldmine Hotpot'. It
is available in 4 different versions/editions with 4 challenging spicy levels -
1,2,3 and 10!
Jumbo Goldmine (Pork version) SGD38
Jumbo Goldmine (Seafood version) SGD58
Jumbo Goldmine (Mixed Seafood + Pork version) SGD68
Jumbo Goldmine (Mixed Seafood + Pork with Lobster
version) SGD88
Level 1: Mild spicy
Level 2: Chilli Padi kinda spicy
Level 3: 'too much' Chilli Padi kinda spicy
Level 10: The initial heat burns the back of your throat
Upon reaching the premises, I was served a refreshing Butterfly Pea Drink.
Diners are allowed to leave their sketches, mementos, as well as compliments on the food and service on the restaurant's walls. Feel free to read
through the notes while waiting for the food to be served!
We played it safe, and went for a level 2 (chilli padi with kinda
spicy). We felt that the spiciness was a little too hot, even for just level 2! A sample size spoonful of level 10 was given to each of us for a taste! Oh well, 1 sip was kinda manageable but I am not sure if I can handle the whole pot!
Tasty seafood and pork meat with Thai Mama Noodles are
cooked in zesty tom yum broth on a stove to ensure it is hot till the last
drop! They are generous in their serving portions, but most importantly, I loved how the broth soaked up all the goodness and flavour from the seafood!
The ingredients
include the whole squid and their signature hand-made pork balls. Do remember not to over-cook them, in order to ensure the texture remains soft and chewy. I love the
hand-made pork balls very much, and the soup tasted awesome as it had a well balanced taste/aroma of lime and lemongrass.
We ended our tasting with some thai desserts, Durian Sticky Rice and Red Ruby!
The durian purée went pretty well with the warm sticky rice.
Thai Goldmine Kitchen is a good alternative to the famous
Nakhon, as they serve yummy yet affordable dishes! Do note that the Jumbo
Goldmine Hotpot is ONLY available at the Kitchener Road Branch.
