Dirty Dancing -The Classic Story on Stage

Dirty Dancing Musical is the fastest-selling show in West End's history, and it is based on the classic 1987 movie starring the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey which has been seen by millions of people around the world.

The musical premise starts off in the summer of 1963, before President Kennedy was shot and before the  Beatles came to Amercia. Innocent 17-year-old girl, Frances Houseman aka Baby went on a holiday with her parents and her older sister to New York’s Catskill Mountains, however she shows little interest in the resort activities and instead discovers her own entertainment when she meets Johnny, the dance instructor. Baby soon becomes his student in dance and love interest.

Dirty Dancing is a love story of two people from different worlds that come into each other’s lives and face challenges together and fight for what they believe in, as well as unforgettable sexy summer love. The musical features a whole string of songs such as Hungry eyes, She’s like the wind and the Academy Award winning, (I’ve had) the Time of my Life.

After a long day of work, I made my way to the MASTERCARD Theatres (SANDS Theatre) for GALA OPENING NIGHT - DIRTY DANCING.

We took several pictures with the banner.

I was given a pair of STALL-SEAT tickets, and we were pretty much looking forward to watch the musical and dance performance, once the musical started and our eyes were glued to the stage.

This scene is where ‘Hungry Eyes’ is played for both the movie and musical...

Upon watching the musical, it brought back many yester-year fond memories, and I have a wonderful nostalgic night. Let us have some flash-back memories of the classic movie of Dirty Dancing way back in 1987.

Though, it has been 26 years since I last saw the iconic pose of Baby in the movie, Dirty Dancing, after watching the musical, I am still very in awe with this unique-ness pose after watching the musical.

The stage cast gave us an energetic performance, and the dancing and singing are brilliant. I love musicals in general, but it was quite disappointing to me, as the first half was pretty boring and rushy, but the second half was better, as the whole the last dance segment, ‘Time of My Life’ made up for it. My favorite moment for this entire musical is when Johnny says ‘Nobody puts Baby in the corner’ and of course the finale dance, ‘TIME OF MY LIFE’.

I had the pleasure to attend the Gala Opening Night (media day) of DIRTY DANCING all thanks to BASE Entertainment Asia, and lastly don’t miss out the classic love story on stage, do give them your support and indulge yourself with the heart pounding music and sensual dance moves.
