[Food Review] Da Cheng Lok Lok + Woodlands Claypot Prawn Jurong

If you love crossing the border for supper, and especially for Lok Lok, you need not travel into Malaysia to satisfy your craving, as Da Cheng Lok Lok has opened their very first outlet right here at Tai Seng, Singapore!

Da Cheng Lok Lok has opened their very first outlet in Singapore, and they open from 6pm till 2am daily, which makes it great for night owls. Do add this new spot to your list of supper haunts!

The ordering process at Da Cheng Lok Lok is straightforward and part of the fun. Just pick your favourite seafood, meats, vegetables, and more, from the large refrigerator, and all the Lok Lok items for deep-frying.

Da Cheng Lok Lok offers a wide variety of Lok Lok skewers, and each skewer is priced affordably at SGD1. Premium ingredients have 2 skewers so those are SGD2 instead. Pair them with the dipping sauces for the ultimate Lok Lok experience.

Oh yes, do not forget about the Malaysian-styled Wanton Mee which is also available at Da Cheng Lok Lok. The noodles had good chewiness, with tender wantons.

Woodlands Claypot Prawn — Singapore’s 1st charcoal claypot prawn with free-flow prawn broth refills. They have opened their fourth outlet in Jurong. Congratulations on your opening!

Woodlands Claypot Prawn is located in a coffeeshop tucked away in an industrial area, and the dining area is quite big. It’s large enough to accommodate large groups of people. Most importantly, the parking is free. Big fans are available to keep the place cool and ventilated.

Do help yourselves to their various sauces at the condiments area which were free flow and non-chargeable!

We also tried the Hokkien Mee which came with a yellow mee-thick bee hoon mix combo served with generous ingredients. The runny egg yolk on top reminded me of ‘moonlight’ hor fun. You will not be disappointed if you like wet-style Hokkien mee. The Hokkien Mee is full of ‘wok hei’, and the chilli paste provided was damn shiok, hot, and spicy. The slurpy noodles were well handled, without leaving any trace of alkaline taste!

We had the Speciality Prawn Broth which was slow-cooked with fresh prawn heads that offered a rich and umami flavor.  It came in a size that was suitable for sharing. The claypot was served over hot flaming charcoal. We were delighted with the generous amount of 12 large prawns which were extremely fresh.

The broth tasted incredible, as it contained the natural umami and sweetness of prawns. What delighted us most was that the prawn soup was refillable.

Ready to dive right in at Woodlands Claypot Prawn? Do make a date with your family or friends and head over for a gathering meal soon!
