[March 2025] Kuala Lumpur Staycation
A short weekend getaway to KL, Malaysia is something I always
look forward to, as it is a chance to recharge myself after a week of stressful
work. We booked our flight to Kuala Lumpur (KL) by Scoot. Our flight was
scheduled on a Friday night at 9pm, and we did our check-in online. We made our
way to airport after our work, and we had our dinner at the airport.
Upon reaching KLIA2, we were greeted by a pleasant sight! The human traffic at custom immigration was light, which maybe was due to the Ramadan Fasting period. It only took us 15mins+ to clear customs!
We headed down to the e-hailing area to catch a Grab Taxi, and it took approximately an hour+ from the airport to our hotel. It cost us RM75, and we checked in at the hotel at almost midnight
Once again, our room was located on the 49th floor and it was spacious! All the drinks at the mini bar were complimentary!
We were greeted by a warm hand-written card together with a fruit basket and a box of Macarons.
Their amenities were on point!! Click the below for the video to see what was provided for us!
Good morning, KL! The Equator Club Lounge is located on level 50, which was a level above our room! It offers quite a decent selection of food.
It was nice to be greeted by a nice view from the Club Lounge.
Baby found a nice place for lunch, and this eatery is famed for their Big River Prawn Noodles.
Restoran Sang Kee is a back lane stall tucked away behind Jalan Yap Ah Loy.
We only ordered one item from their menu - Sang Har Mee, and we liked the springy firm texture of the thick noodles. The noodles were enhanced by the gooey, eggy and flavorful gravy.
The large river prawn was cut in half, and they were so fresh and meaty.
We walked back to EQ Hotel Kuala Lumpur to enjoy our Afternoon Tea at the Club Lounge!
The Afternoon Tea Set consists of assorted sandwiches, a couple of savory tart items, scones and cakes.
The Club Lounge provided us with all three meals - Breakfast, followed by Afternoon Tea and lastly, the Evening Cocktails with Canapés. It was time for the Evening Hors d’oeuvres, so we headed up to the Club Lounge again.
We met up with Daddy Mike to celebrate his birthday, and we settled at Restoran Sek Yuen which is located at Jalan Pudu, and it is one of the oldest surviving restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. It is also one of the very few restaurants that still uses wood-fire stoves to cook. I was looking forward to their ‘wok hey’ dishes.
At Sek Yuen, diners will be spoiled for choice by their extensive 25 pages menu.
We ordered one of their signature dishes, which was the Pipa Roasted Duck. It was perfectly roasted over wood fire. Remember to dip the meat into the special sweet plum sauce for an enhanced taste!
We also had the common Chinese dish - Sweet and Sour Pork. I love the Sek Yuen’s version, as each pork piece was tender, coated in batter and deep-fried till crispy.
We received an email alert from the hotel a few days before our check-in that the swimming pool was closed for maintenance during our stay. The hotel compensated us by giving us a late check out at 3pm.
Since the check-out was set at 3pm, we headed down to LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre for more retail therapy.
We ordered one-pax portion of Dry Bak Kut Teh and another one-pax portion for Soup Version, with other accompanying dishes such as Tau Pok and You Tiao.
I really enjoyed the Dry Bak Kut Teh and our damage was reasonably pleasant!
As our flight back to Singapore was delayed till 0010hrs Monday morning. We had plenty of time on the last day to do more shopping.
We had dinner at Subang Jaya before heading to the airport. While our flight was scheduled late, we spent our time at the Oriental Kopi which is located at the arrival hall of KLIA2. We loved their Curry Chee Cheong Fun, and it is definitely worth trying!
