Coco is a Mini Schnauzer Mix, and unfortunately she has inherited the usual Skin Allergies that is common in Schnauzer breeds
since she was a puppy. She is allergic to food which has poultry content hence we need to pay
more attention when buying dry kibbles and rewarding treats...
I
got Coco in 2006 through a breeder, and I got to know that she fed on an old brand of dog food/kibbles named Back to
Basic (Pork Version) since she was born, so I followed the same diet after taking her
back since she was doing fine. Unfortunately Back to Basic was discontinued
in 2007.
I had been searching for a suitable diet to replace her current diet, and through trial and error, it has caused some schnauzer bumps and skin irritations on her. Luckily one of my dog forum’s friends recommended Solid Gold (lamb and brown rice – adult version) and she gave me some kibbles for Coco to try out. To my pleasant surprise, she loves it but most importantly is that there was no skin irritations occurring after consumption. Since then, she has been eating the Solid Gold (lamb and brown rice – adult version) since then till now...
Recently, I was introduced to LIFE4K9 - Lamb & Barley... After reading through the ingredient contents, I decided to give a try on Coco. The main reason for me to change her diet is because her poo and pee is very smelly after consuming the kibbles from Solid Gold, which causes my parents to complain every now and then about the foul smell whenever she does her ‘business’ at home.
One
thing to note down when changing your pet’s diet (maybe some pet owners might
know about this) but I just feel like sharing with you guys...
Do not change the diet drastically as they might not get used to it, so when changing of brand for the kibbles, do mix the old ones and new kibbles together when feeding them for the first few days before changing it directly.
She has been taking the new diet for a week, and to my surprise, she loves her new diet and her fur coat condition improved quite a bit, but what I love most is that her poo and pee doesn’t smell so badly like last time...
I love seeing her enjoying her meals and doing fine in her daily life, and I think this is what most pet owners feel too...
Time flies so fast and my Coco is going into her senior year (8 years old) in 2014. No matter what, she is still my lovable furkid ever!!
Showering affection to our pets is as important as taking care of their dietary. Do love them to the fullest as they are your best friend who will never talk back or angry with you when you throw tantrums on them when you are feeling vexed. So treasure your best and loyal friend in life...
