[SCS] Carnival of Drums

Carnival of Drums is an annual community relations and fund-raising event organised by Students Care Services.

Students Care Services (SCS) is a charity organisation that has been offering social work services to students with social, emotional, learning and financial issues for the last 37 years. Their mission is to provide professional and effective services and programme to serve the students and their low-income families.

Through this fund-raising platform, it enables families, companies and different communities to come together to experience connection by engaging in a common activity – Drumming, and of course support a good cause.

Drumming is a healthy activity that knows no boundaries, and it transcends age, race and culture.

Upon registration, Jas Jas and I explored the six cultural villages (Children, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian and Indonesian)

With the exploration of the cultural villages, we were given opportunities to hands-on in playing the drums and get a better understanding about the different ethnic drums.

If one can do something for a good cause with a small donation and bring a smile on everyone’s face why not? We were blessed and we should be blissful to be able to help the needy.

Yes!! PSY tells the answer, and we were now at the Korean Village....

There was a Hanbok Photo Booth at the Korean Village where one can put on the Korean traditional outfit and takes pictures against the photo-wall.

There were some Hanbok costumes hanging at the booth to choose from and Jas Jas selected one of the traditional outfits...

After she got dressed up, we started to take pictures against the photo wall, and we had a fun time snapping photos...

We went to the Indian Village, and Jas Jas did the Henna Painting with a minimal of donation.

The henna design was painted nicely on her hand.

Everybody loves the Roving Marching Band!! Across the causeway, from Johor Bahru, Malaysia, SIGS Drumline is a marching band equipped with a complete set of musical instruments. The band was established in 1971 and they also participated in several competitions one of which was the World Championship Marching Show band 2011, clinching the Sliver Award.

We were given a chop for every village we visited, and upon completion, we redeemed our souvenir...

Cultural Drumming Experience was held at the Begonia Pavilion where we caught LIVE on-stage energetic performances by different ethnic groups. We grooved along to the music and we immersed ourselves in the vibrant and rhythmic experiences...

Lastly, We proceed to the D’ Marquee where we had a wholesome and unforgettable experience, as we were part of the massive Community Drum Circle, beating together as ONE. 'Carnival of Drums' helps to promote the idea of ONE-ness when we joined in the Community Drum Circle during the final segment of the event.

Thanks for the invitation!! We had an enjoyable 'drumming' day-out at Downtown East.
