[December 2024] Kuala Lumpur Staycation

A short weekend getaway to KL, Malaysia is something I always look forward to, as it is a chance to recharge myself after a week of stressful work. We booked our flight to Kuala Lumpur (KL) by Scoot. Our flight was scheduled on a Friday night at 21:00hrs, and we did our check-in online. We made our way to the airport after our work, and we had our dinner at the airport. This time, the flight left on schedule.

Upon reaching KLIA2, we were greeted by a long line at the custom migrations. We waited in the line for about 20-30 minutes to clear the customs!

We headed straight to the e-hailing area to wait for our grab-driver! It took us approximately an hour+ from the airport to our hotel. It cost us about RM70 and we checked into at the hotel at 1am

This was our 2nd visit to EQ. We really love the hotel very much, so while planning for this short trip, and without a second thought, we booked it via their main website instead of the third-party website booking

This time, our room was located on the 47th floor, and it was spacious! We were greeted with a warm hand-written card together with a fruit basket and a box of Praline Chocolates.

All the drinks in the mini bar were complimentary! The luxurious bathroom amenities are from the Italian brand, Bvlgari.

Once we checked in to the hotel, we went straight for our shower and then headed to bed after a long day. We needed to wake up early the next day as we have booked our morning slot for the Crayon Shin-Chan Experience at Bukit Jalil Pavilion.

Good morning, KL! It was nice to be greeted by a nice view from my room. (click on below video to view).

The Equator Club Lounge is located on level 50, which was 3 levels above our room! It offers quite a comprehensive selection of food.

The lounge provided us with all three meals - Breakfast, followed by Afternoon Tea and lastly, the Evening Cocktails with Canapés. The variety & food taste-wise was splendid!

After breakfast, we grabbed down to Bukit Jalil Pavilion.

We purchased the RM80 Souvenir Card Package each for Crayon Shin-Chan Experience which included an Admission Ticket to the Photo Zone areas, and also a Themed Beverage, a Themed Main Course, a Themed Dessert, as well as exclusive merch such as coasters, a glass cup, an activity card, and finally, a collection card!

The Shin-Chan Experience at Pavilion Bukit Jalil is a nostalgic treat for 90’s kids!

We were given an activity card that made our exhibition experience even more interactive. We had to sift out stamp zones within and around the exhibition and stamped the locations on the card. Upon completion, i was given a collectible collection card.

The exhibition comprises of five photo zones, with your journey beginning with a realistic recreation of Shin-Chan’s living room. It’s even complete with a low Japanese-style table that the Nohara family gathers around for meals and a television set from the cartoon.

The next zone was also inspired by a Van Gogh painting. I really loved the whimsical atmosphere where Shin-Chan’s cuteness meets Van Gogh’s charming art!

My exhibition journey concluded in a narrow hallway, where framed photos of memorable moments from the anime are hung which took us on a trip down memory lane.

The event also offers a range of exclusive merchandise and themed snacks, perfect for those looking to relive childhood memories.

We got the opportunity to dine at the themed cafe with food and drinks which was also part of the exhibition. It serves a collection of Japanese mains, beverages, and desserts.

Our drinks came with a cup sleeve of a Crayon Shin-Chan character. They offer a refreshing lineup – Ribena Longan Sparkle and Oolong Fantasy.

We went with the Shin-Chan Moonlit Curry Delight. It was a simple and satisfying Japanese curry dish, paired with a handful of karaage chicken.

We left some stomach room for desserts, as we were having the Choco Shin-Chan Pops – a pair of nostalgic chocolate popsicle sticks with marshmallows served on a plate and Shiro Dreaming Pudding that has a Shiro-shaped jelly made of soya bean.

Whether you’re a long-time fan or you've just been introduced to Shin-Chan, this experience is bound to bring plenty of laughs, quirky souvenirs, and Instagram-worthy moments!

I am so happy to have visited Malaysia’s First-Ever Crayon Shin-Chan Experience! It is a delightful experience that combines both the playful world of Crayon Shin-Chan with famous artist, Van Gogh-inspired twist!

We visited KKV again for shopping and some miscellaneous shops to get some stuffs. We also grabbed down to Berjaya Time Square for more shopping.

We walked back to EQ Hotel Kuala Lumpur from Berjaya Time Square to enjoy our afternoon tea at the club lounge! The Afternoon Tea Set consists of assorted sandwiches, a couple of savory tart items, scones and cakes.

We went back to our room to ‘lepak’ after our tea, before heading down to the Club Lounge again for our Evening Hors d’oeuvres. They provided a comprehensive selection of food, and therefore, we did not need to go out for dinner in order to fill up our stomach.

We woke up early the next day to enjoy having a morning dip before having our breakfast. No stay at the EQ Hotel, Kuala Lumpur is complete without having a dip at the beautiful infinity pool. It was a good choice to relax and start off the day.

After the pool session, we went back to our room to have a quick shower before heading up to the Club Lounge to enjoy our breakfast. During our breakfast session, we requested for a late check-out at 1pm instead, which was granted immediately! We truly had a wonderful staycation with EQ HOTEL KL!

We did have the advantage of checking out at the club lounge instead of the hotel lobby, so we did so! We left our luggage at the club lounge while we went out for a short retail theraphy session at the Pavilion Bukit Bintang. We also got to enjoy some snacks and tea service while waiting for our grab car to pick us up from the hotel.

We used to patronise Village Park Restaurant for their famous Nasi Lemak, but it is pretty hard to get a seat due to the over-whelming crowds. This time, we tried another eatery place to have our Nasi Lemak brekkie which is somewhat similar.

We went to the 'Nasi Lemak Shop', which is located at SS15 Courtyard. We ordered Nasi Lemak, and although the presentation looked the same as compared to the Nasi Lemak at Village Park Restaurant, I felt taste wise, they were marginally different. I still prefer the taste of the Nasi Lemak from Village Park.

We can’t get enough of Claypot Rice, so we decided to have our dinner at Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice which is located at Jalan Yew, Pudu and it is a Michelin Bib Gourmand recommendation.

Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice still uses traditional charcoal stoves to cook the rice. Apparently, using charcoal makes a significant difference in the taste as it gives the dish an overall better flavour and aroma. As such, we needed to wait at least 30 minutes for our claypot chicken rice.

A standard bowl of Claypot Chicken Rice was enough to be shared between the two of us. However, if you are a big eater we highly suggest you opt for the medium portion.

Simply put, Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice is one of the best Claypot Chicken Rice in Kuala Lumpur. The claypot rice were perfectly cooked and taste quite delicious. I will definitely come back again during my next visit.

As our flight back to Singapore was around 11-ish at night, we were so glad that we had managed to try out so much nice food as well as shopping in Kuala Lumpur. We will be back again soon!
