It's another day trip in California, and this time we had our late breakfast at Domino’s Pizza! It was a fuss-frill brekkie for us! We drove for about 2hrs out of downtown Los Angeles to Palm Springs, and it is known for its sunshine, retro vibes, and a whole lot of desert magic.
You know you’re almost at Palm Springs when you see these two colorful dinosaurs standing right off the highway!
The 65-foot-tall Mr. Rex (the
Tyrannosaurus rex) and 150-foot-long Dinny (the Apatosaurus) are
local celebrities.
A classic roadside attraction - Cabazon Dinosaurs is a photo opportunity for any dinosaur fan!
We continued on our journey onto Palm Springs...
This is the first attraction we visited at Palm Springs - Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
The tram car is a fun ride – it felt and seemed safe but there are some bumps encountered as the tram goes over the pylons, which we enjoyed so much! The views as you go up are stunning, and as the car rotates so everyone has a great view. It might be not a cheap attraction, but it is totally well worth the price in my opinion!
We took the 10-minute ride in a rotating cable car up the sheer cliffs of Chino Canyon into the San Jacinto Mountains.
The Mountain Station at the top is more than 8516ft up and gives you amazing views of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
We took a short hike in the woods for
the breathtaking views and natural beauty of San Jacinto Mountains. Overall, it
was a pretty tough hike but very rewarding!
Next up, we drove into Downtown Palm
Springs - This vibrant district blends Old Hollywood glamour with modern
charm!
We loved the art scenes in Palm Springs, as the town is famous for its Public Art. There are many stunning works to be discovered. To me, it is a ‘Living Art Gallery in the Desert’.
We loved this ‘PS I Love You’
sculpture, also known as 'Love Letters', which is an an interactive piece for
photos, where you become the 'I'.
We walked along Palm Canyon Drive, which is the main drag in town. We spotted the ‘Forever Marilyn’ from a distance. It is a 26-foot-tall sculpture of Marilyn Monroe in her iconic white dress pose from the 1955 film - The Seven Year Itch.
The statue is a must-see visitor
attraction in the heart of Downtown Palm Springs and a popular spot for photos.
There are more than 50 hand-painted benches along Palm Canyon Drive, and I decided to take a photo against one of the art benches in Palm Springs.
We decided to have our dinner in Palm Springs before heading back to Los Angeles. We settled at Lulu California Bistro, but due to having no reservations, we had to wait for 15mins for our table. It’s located on the main street and always looks busy.
In short, my meal was fine, but it wasn’t the best meal I had in California. Food was decent but not worth for the prices paid! Nevertheless, the service was efficient, and our food came out fast. Most importantly, the boy loved his pasta!
We drove 2hrs-ish back to our Airbnb, and I am glad that I visited Palm Springs during this California vacation, as I always love the unique blend of outdoor adventure and city charm! Stay tuned for my next post… Disney California Adventure (DCA), here I come!
