[AFF Singapore 2013] Audi STAR CREATION 2013
Audi STAR Creation is a regional fashion design competition that identifies and nurtures emerging Asian fashion design talent. It is an event of the annual Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX). The competition is open to aspiring designers between 16-35 years old. Asian citizens. The event is sponsored by Audi Singapore and is also supported by FJ Benjamin. It was first held in 2010, as part of the inaugural Asia Fashion Exchange.
I was invited to attend the capsule collections
developed by the three winners of the region-wide fashion design competition,
Audi STAR Creation 2012, as they showcased their maiden collections at Audi Fashion
Festival Singapore 2013.
Temasek Polytechnic Apparel Design and
Merchandising student, Haziq Putra from Singapore won the Audi Young Designer Award and took down the fashion runway at Audi STAR Creation 2013. His collection,
‘Pursuit
to Freedom’ took one of the competition's top three spots, winning
SGD10,000 in cash, an one-year internship with leading fashion retailer FJ Benjamin and the chance to launch
his maiden capsule collection at Audi STAR Creation 2014.
Haziq Putra's menswear collection featured hand-dyed batik from which he created a digital print.

Apart from him, the other two spots went to Sun Yi
Jin from China and Vu Ta Linh from Vietnam.
Vietnam's Vu Ta Linh, 26, also won the judges
over with ‘The Contour’, a womenswear collection that used stitching,
weaving and embroidery to capture the curves and waves of Vietnamese heritage
icons. He graduated from the Hanoi London College of Fashion Studies in July 2012.
Bagging the third and the final spot was
24-year-old Sun Yi Jin from China,
her womenswear collection drew on Chinese costumes and handcrafting
techniques of 56 ethnic groups, which some have been lost over time. Her
collections were pretty impressive as it draws so strongly on history yet she
manages to come across as modern.
Designers Roderic
Wong, 28 (China), Ko Youngji, 32
(South Korean) and Soravit Kaewkamon,
24 (Thailand) have been developing their collections under the mentorship of
Douglas and Odile Benjamin of leading fashion retailer FJ Benjamin over the last year. Now, they are set to hit Audi
Fashion Festival Runway at the Tent@Marina Promenade.
South Korea's Ko Youngji presented a completely new
collection, ‘La Porte’. Using primarily pink, violet and ivory, she
incorporates the beauty and mystery that Parisian doors hold into this
collection.
Thailand's Soravit
Kaewkamon presented the beauty of hornbill, the women's wear
featured defined cuts and strong structure on woven fabric and leather, but
with shapes that are more feminine, bolder digital prints and laser-cut
details.
I am pretty much looking forward to our very own
Haziq Putra from Singapore to launch
his maiden capsule collection at Audi STAR Creation 2014. See you next year!!
