After a hiatus of 3 years, I decided to give to visit Thailand again for a short getaway. We therefore, purchased our air tickets from Scoot to Ko Samui, Thailand. The flight was scheduled for 7am in the morning, and the flying time was about 2hrs.
Prior to our departure, we purchased a return
transfer via Klook. The car journey took 25mins to get to our pre-booked
hotel, the 'W Hotel Ko Samui'.
There are many Marriott Bonvoy hotel options on the island of Ko Samui, but we ended up deciding on the W Ko Samui for their large villas and overall upscale beach vibe. After a steep drive up the resort driveway, we arrived at the W Ko Samui entrance.
We arrived through the hotel entrance way and started the check in process. The hotel had a sleek and minimalist look from the outside. However, once we got inside, we were greeted with tremendous views!
Upon arrival to the lobby, we were welcomed by the check-in agent. We were seated on the couches while a welcome drink was presented.
The W Ko Samui lobby art was sharp, and strongly decorated.
We were told that we were given a 10% discount off all food and beverage for being a Marriott Bonvoy member. The discount was automatically applied with minimal fuss.
After the check-in process, we enjoyed some of the iconic W Ko Samui views from the lobby before hopping into our buggy to get escorted to our Villa room. We were informed to call for the buggy anytime we wanted to use it, and the wait time would merely be a 10minute wait.
We were led down to Villa 153, which was located
a few steps to the beach. The surrounding environment was beautifully
landscaped with tropical plants such as bamboo and palm trees.
With all rooms at the W Ko Samui being villas, the rooms were exceptionally private with high walls. Our room was long and rectangular in shape and offered a couch, coffee table, Florida ceiling windows along with a very comfortable soft king-size bed.
The bathroom featured both an indoor and an outdoor shower. The outdoor shower was completely enclosed but still allowed for looking up at the sky.
Heading outside, there was a large outdoor space with a shaded daybed, a small table and chairs with a large umbrella and a private pool.
The W Ko Samui Beach is located on Ocean-front property. We only needed to walk a short distance to the W Ko Samui Beach from our villa.
The W Ko Samui Beach isn’t the top beach when it comes to worldwide beach resorts, but I still loved the private beach as there were very little people, and the quiet environment and calm sea gave an extreme relaxing vibe!
One of the best features of the W Ko Samui is the ‘SWEET SPOT’ Kiosk. We helped ourselves to a free-flow of drinks and ice cream, and this made it a frequent stop for us. What a sweet gesture!
While we were getting ready for our lunch
reservation, the hotel arranged a Welcome Dessert Stand to be delivered to our
room.
The W Ko Samui Pool - ‘Wet Deck’ seemed to be under-used to me, as most villa rooms have their own private pools resulting in the wet deck being a pretty quiet place to be.
We called reception to arrange a buggy to our villa to the main lobby, as we were heading to a restaurant located on a hill, called 'The Roof Samui' for our brunch. We headed there by using 'Grab' to hail for a taxi.
The Roof Samui is located on a hill in Chaweng, and the ascent was quite steep. The restaurant offers a 4X4 transport to bring us up and down the hill for just 50 Baht per pax, as taxi can only drop us at the car park area, where the restaurant's pick-up trucks took over to bring us to the top.
The view from the 340-meter-high deck is truly stunning and it made the journey worthwhile. This is what many people declare a ‘must-visit’ in Ko Samui.
There are plenty of photo opportunities for
those who love taking pictures. With both indoor and outdoor seating, it's a
great recommendation for those who want to enjoy the fantastic view and
pleasant breeze. If sitting on bean bags is not your thing, there are proper
tables available as well.
The Roof Samui offers a complete sensory
experience. This elevated dining destination is a perfect blend of stunning
views, delicious authentic Thai cuisine and an unforgettable atmosphere. Highly
recommended!
After lunch, we headed straight for some
shopping at Central Samui which located at Chaweng area. It is the largest
lifestyle shopping centre on Ko Samui, and it features both an indoor and an
outdoor section.
We did some shopping at the supermarket as well. With all our loots, we walked to Kapi Sator, a Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant, which specialises in southern Thai food.
It was also located in Central Samui, and we decided upon an early dinner in order to beat the dinner crowds, especially since we didn’t make any reservations in advance.
The Beef Curry was top-notch, which is a rich
blend of tender beef simmered in a fragrant coconut curry. We enjoyed every
single dish we ordered, and the service from the staff was pleasant and
efficient. What a delightful dining experience!
Kapi Sator is also popular with Thai diners, (and what made us love this restaurant so much is that they serve authentic Thai dishes rather than toned-down versions aimed at tourists.
We submitted our 5-star reviews on Google Maps and received a complimentary Samui Spritz and a scoop of coconut ice-cream.
After that we walked around the Central Samui
Night Market and popular Chaweng Night Market.
After some shopping at the night market, we walked to Elephant Beach Club which is located at Chaweng Beach. It is a well-known destination for people who want to have a good time because it features hip-hop and R&B music and beach parties.
The staff were very friendly, and they even helped us to charge up our depleted power-bank! We had some light bar bites and sipped cocktails while watching the fire show. The fire show was fantastic.
We ‘grabbed’ back to our hotel to end our long day, as we were pretty tired from our morning flight. We needed to charge up our energy levels in order to explore more of Ko Samui the very next day!
